I have a 1996 GT and when I drive from 0-40 MPH, it drive fine. But between 40-70 MPH, it has a loud muffler like noise. Keep in mind that I'm deaf and had someone in the car to describe me the noise so I can post this thread. The noise goes away when I'm making a slight right road curve but remain straightaway and left curve. I'm thinking bearings, rotors, and such but wanted to know what others know or experience the same problems and can pinpoint this for me. I also rev up the motor to see if there's a exhaust mainfold leak but nothing happen, I drove to 50 mph and shift in neutral while rolling at 50 and the noise is still there even not pressing gas at all so I figured that I don't have exhaust leak. Help?

Hi, which end, or corner of your car does the sound come from? And how did you or the original person hear or feel this sound? It could be alot of things. Right now I'm thinking it is an issue that I am having currently as well:dragging brakes.

But if you find out a little more about the issues I'm sure we can help you out!

The person was in the passenger front seat listening to the sound, I can feel it on the gas pedal/floor. The person pinpoint it in the front area not the back. However he did mention it may had echo? I think it's coming from the front wheels.

Jack up the front wheels and spin them. Attempt to create a drag or vibration.

Also check the wheel bearings and tie rods. An issue with brakes is not normally speed related, meaning it will always make noise or never.

How do I check the bearings? do I lock the steering wheel and wiggle it or remove it completely and inspect the internals?

The wheel bearings are checked by jacking the car off the ground, Push the top of the wheel towards the center of the car while pulling the bottom of the wheel out and feel for movement. Then do the opposite.

Tie rod is front to back with the wheel. You should be able to move the wheel some.

replaced both front wheel bearing/hubs, now the noise's all gone thanks all of you for helping! Weird part are that both wheels do not wiggle up/down and sideways. Turn out the bearings were dried. Glad I changed it out in time!

They normally move before they need changed. I would assume you still had some time before they needed fixed.

Glad you figure it out.
