up until recently, i have been targeting 2000 rpm as my "cruising" rpms. lately, i have started targeting 1500 instead. is 1500 rpms too low for just cruising?

what rpms does everyone else cruise at?

2200-2500 cruising

I think that 1500 is a little low because at that point you're dogging the engine and it takes a lot more throttle to get it going when you need/want to. Also, you really don't want to shift much lower than 2500 because you drop too close to stall speed by the time you get the next gear engaged.

Just my opinion...

I'm new to the 5spd as well. I was keeping it at around 2000, and I thought I was driving it "hard" keeping it at 2k and shifting at 2200.
So I guess 2000-2500 cruise and 2700 shifting during normal street driving is safe for the engine. To think I was going by the owners manual that tells you to shift at 1800 rpm, I was shifting every second to get up to 35MPH
