It depends on the severity of the chips, but if your windshield is not cracked I would retain it.

That's too much. There's a lot of wisdom on this site and no one has seen that before. Does it show from outside ? It's just suttle enough,
Thanks for sharing . Now it's late and these explosives won't light themselves. [New Years Eve]

Yup.
If I can't find one just like mine I'll just get one locally. Cali glass will install a new one for less then $200.
Sounds crazy but I like looking at those running ponies.
Maybe ill get the chips filled in?

You could always ship to Ventura for free and then drive there to pick it up. Long drive, but worth the savings to ship.

I come from that industry and I can never recommend a used or chipped WS....
If you understand the properties of glass and how its cut, ALL used WS's are ready to crack or break....
When you cut glass you actually put a flaw into it with a cutter, then you " run " the flaw into a break... Used WS/s with thousands of sand and gravel marks are time bombs just waiting to run each flaw.....
The " fill the chip" systems never address that the flaw, which has usually already started to run, is still there......

I agree with limp, I have pulled maybe a hundred windshields and more than half break just sitting in the rack.
back glass is more forgiving cause it is tempered or whatever they do, different.

I did one of these recently. They don't look like they'd store too well, or I'd pick up a couple spares.

Yeah Limp I heard all the scary talk from so called industry experts about how a chip always turns to a crack, over ten years of driving on the highway and surface streets at excessive speeds and not on of the chips has grown to a crack.
You all know I daily drive my stang, have since 2007, well over 100,000 miles so if I can't find a windshield just like my original one with the running ponies ill just get them chips filled and call it good.

Modern windshield glass is multi-layered.

I cannot speak to the stuff that was made before I was born.

If you get a crack, definitely recommend filling it with Glue cement whatever that s*** is to keep it from spreading. Not only does Ensure it won't spread but it also cleans up the chip/crack
