Not running on all 8 after intake cracked

Man this just sucks...

My intake cracked about 10 days ago and the car started to miss. So i got the intake replaced for free but the tech didn't clean out the head where the plugs were. So It was missing pretty bad when I got it from the dealer (wife picked it up). I pulled all the coil packs on the driver's side and they were still full of coolant. I soaked all the coolant out with paper towels and then removed all those plugs and cleaned them. They were coated with green slime all the way down until the very last thread. All four of those plugs looked fine, none were fouled. I hit them with a wire brush, and checked the gaps then re installed them. It ran great for about 10 minutes and started to miss again. I threw in the towel for today and will replace all 8 plugs tomorrow morning. I hope that works

The car NEVER should have left the dealership running that way. I would raise bloody hell in the service department until they fix it.

The short answer to that is Yes, you're right. And that's also what I get for letting my wife pick it up

But I didn't want them charging me for a tune up w/ Labor to fix it. If it's not running right by tomorrow I'll take it back

The exact same thing happened to me last friday, I picked up the car and it was running rough on 7 cylinders. I made a U turn and took it back to the dealer, they said it was just some water left in the spark plug holes and should burn off, or I could leave it with them, but it would be the following monday before they could look at it. I took it home, changed the plugs and cleaned out the coils. Also found they had not reconnected the EGR vacuum line. You may that one of the coils has gone bad.

Sounds familiar....

I cleaned the coils on the driver's side but tomorrow I'm just gonna replace all the plugs and hope that the coils are fine. I should've just replaced all the plugs on the first try. Instead I cleaned them, then drove around. When that didn't work I let the motor cool and replaced the first plug in the front and it made a difference. Then it started missing again, but by this time it was getting dark.

What's the procedure for testing the coil packs to see if they are working fine?

i got water in my spark plug holes from driving it without the hood, and it never stopped missing until i cleaned them out. use contact cleaner to get rid of any carbon tracing. you need and inductive voltage tester. they are found at a service center.

COP primary resistance = 0.55 ohms
COP secondary resistance = 5.5 K-ohms

Connect an ohmmeter across the + and the - terminals on the coil where the connector plugs into the coil to check primary resistance.

Connect an ohmmeter across the + terminal and the spring end (spring that connects to spark plug) on the coil to check secondary resistance.

I also see a new coil pack is like $70.00 for one

Let's just hope they're still working

Just seconding the bit about contact cleaner, a couple of mine were so far gone that they needed scrapeing also to get the carbon off.

If they test out OK electrically, you may want to take a closer look at them and see if they are cracked.

Got it working on all 8 now baby!!!

Changed all the plugs and that allowed me to find that one cylinder was still missing. I pulled each connection and the only one that didn't make it worse was #1. I yanked that coil and ohmed it out.

Primary was 0.900 Ohms

Secondary was 5.9K Ohms

Ran down to the local dealer and paid $90.00 for a new one and put it in while still in the lot. After that it's running like new. I suspect 1 or 2 of the other coils may go soon since they were soaked with coolant

But at least it's back to normal
