New problem. My lifters are dramatically tapping at every start. They pump back up after 15 seconds or so, but this just started happening recently.
What should be my next approch?

Well you have a couple of options, buy new ones, take them out and take them apart and clean them, or run a quart of mistery oil in your crank case for about a week.

I had to tear mine apart. Crud can make the one way ball stick and not let the lifters say pumped up. New lifters will run you about $150

I would start by changing your oil and switching to a higher viscocity... before you do anything else.

how do you know that is lifters, worn bearings can make that noise as well at startup and while running, do you have good and steady oil psi

I would pull off the valve covers and press down on the rocker arm when it is cold and see if the lifter is squishy, don't just assume and dig yourself a hole.
