I just want to know if heads from a 98 F-150 4.6 are the same as the 96-98 GT heads...? Intake/exhaust runners, combustion chambers all the same just like the PI's between truck and Mustang?

maybe, you'll have to look at the head as trucks had either Windsor (13/14 bolt) or Romeo heads (11 bolts) and should be Non-Pi wth the "tear-drop" shapped intake port

Thanks, Randy. I thought all non-PI heads were Romeo's...?

Nope. Ported Non-PI's.

I need to get in touch with this Jim of Renegade Racing as soon as I find a set of castings.

I thought ported NPIs made less than PIs. Why not ported PIs if you are paying for the head work?

You thought wrong, hehe

I'm not an authority on Non-PI's vs PI's, but if you do a quick search you will quickly find that the Non-PI's have greater potential than the PI's... so far anyways.

Get ahold of TGJ on here, he has a set of NPI's done by Jim and everyone raves about his work.

Yeah TGJ was giving me some info on the SVO head in another thread. I've beat the search to death about the Non-PI heads and he seems to have alot of good info from experience... and Gearbanger also boasts about Renegade's Non-PI's so I'm planning on sending Mr. Jim some castings to see what kind of magic he can work for me.

I actually sold an extra set of Non-PI's I had AND a set of Windsor PI's. That was when I also thought the NPI's were worthless and either wanted some PI's from VT or 4-valve heads. It's what I get for being so indecisive.

Search won't yield much positive results on NPI head information since in the early years a few people rushed and judged the NPI heads as junk and not worth porting...then with the release of the PI heads vendors started selling the PI heads as a upgrade so they also bashed NPI heads so they could sell more PI kits. I have to admit i bought into the BS and purchased a set of P&P'd PI heads when i could have just had my stock worked. Oh well we live and learn! Thankfully JL/KD/TGJ and a few others did some experimenting and proved the cork was the NPI intake and cams and not so much the heads. So finding good info on NPI heads can be tough...i would suggest reading over at www.tccoa.com that is where i go to find out my tranny info and a good place for NPI info. There are also a few good threads on MD from a few years ago that may entertain you.

Yeah, had the NPI heads that originally came with my engine not been screwed when I bought the car, I would have just ported them, instead of swapping out to the PI heads. I wanted to go with the PI cams and valve train anyway, so I just went ahead and bought a set of used PI's I stumbled across for a really good deal (at the time).

To tell you the truth, the car wouldn't have cost me near as much in the end and admittedly not made as much power, since I had the blower in mind from the start and the 10.4:1 CR of the PI heads and NPI weren't a good match for the 9psi I planned on running. As a result, I decided to forge the bottom end.....and everything went downhill for my wallet after that.
