O/R H Pipe In!

I ordered a summit o/r h pipe about 2-3 weeks ago and i finally got it in today. The bolts connecting the header flanges to the stock h-pipe are hard to reach but with some nice swivel sockets, extensions, and some bolt blasting lube we got the bolts off.

Now for the fun part, the car sounds great at first i wasn't sure if it was much louder (this was only really testing idle sound). Once i get driving and had some space to play i was very impressed. The car seems to get into the upper rpm's much faster and i love the sound. Power-wise i prolly picked up a few hp, maybe 5. The pipe was a good value, and fit fine i don't see any need for buying a name brand pipe, your only paying for the name. Right now my exhaust system just has o/r h pipe with stock headers/catback. I have a set of FMS shorty headers waiting to go on, so if this thread is still alive by the time i get those on i will update.

Overall i think for the $100 i paid the results are hard to beat. Easier to rev, a few hp, but the sound o the sound

ive got the summit o/r hpipe also and i have nothing but good things to say about it....great piece and an even better price

Same here ..... I just need to coat it with something to keep it from rusting.

if you find something that's not to expensive to coat it with pm me. The pipe comes Aluminized Steel from summit. Stainless would be nice, but that would make the pipe cost alot more money. There has to be a lower priced coating alternative.

I'm in need of purchasing an off road h-pipe and am mainly concerned with fitment. Are you guys are suggesting I get a Summit pipe as opposed to say BBK?

Well .... if fitment is the concern .... you have nothing to worry about with the Summit pipe. At least I didn't.

I will not compare it to the BBK ... cause I've not used it. But really, from what I can catch .... the only REAL difference is the coating. Maybe a slight sound difference .... but nothing really noticable. For the price, though .... the Summit is awesome.

Reason I ask is because I had a Mac one in the past where the passenger side hung lower. I also had a Pacesetter that in no way sealed at the header. So it's either BBK for $160 or Summit for $100

i also have an offroad h pipe which i just swapped out with stock to pass inspection. im trying to figure out whether to switch back to that or spend the money on a new h or x pipe with cats. switching back to cats is making my car run so much better, better gas mileage, drives smoother, and even feels faster in the high rpms. Why is this and what are your suggestions?

I have a summit o/r H sitting at work waiting for me to get the car back out... I'll post up a video when I install it.

As for the cat question.. That is very odd. Usually it is the other way around when a cat gets clogged. Maybe someone will chime in that knows more about that.

my advice from personal experience would be to pass up the bbk. when i had mine in with the bbk shorties, the h-pipe hung down on both sides and dragged all over everything. (lowered with eibach sportlines) i would either look at the prochamber or save the money and get the summit piece.

so do all of you prefer the offroad pipes over the catted ones? im no mechanic so i dont know what the exact problem was but it seemed like not having cats was throwing off the o2 sensor and somehow messing up my fuel ratio. Not sure if thats possible but I was getting terrible gas mileage. I dont want to go spending $300-400 on a X Pipe w/ Cats if im not going to benefit at all from the cats. My friend just keeps trying to convince me to stick w/ cats. He tells me that cars today arent meant to be run without them and that ill be asking for problems. How true is this? Also if no cats can throw your computer off what must be done to take care of this? I mean i already have an offroad h pipe in near mint condition so itd be a waste for me to switch to a system with hiflow cats if im not going to benefit. I thought maybe inspection was even a good reason alone to go with the cats, nj is a bitch with inspection.

update on my pipe: i have a small exhaust leak between the passenger side header and the o/r pipe. Just need to get under the car and tighten those bolts down, does anybody recomend a gasket to put there or a sealant of somesort?

Poo on the Summit one. But the sound with the cam and headers is freakin awsome
