I was thinking about just replacing the factory H-pipe with an offroad X or H-pipe and leaving the stock mufflers in place.

Anybody ever hear this? If it sounds weak or bad, I'll just weld in some Flows after.

www.mustangexhaust.com - They have every possible exhaust sound you could think of for any mustang.

It will sound louder. The sound will be good, but like donkey-punch said, you will want better/louder soon.

As for welding in flows....I would suggest (if you choose to do a cat-back) to just order the american thunder kit. Installs very easy, tips look great, and you will get a full 2.5 inch madrel bent system.

FYI...this is how it started for me. Add a short throw shifter...a catback system...look at my sig now. Who knew

I've had the Flowmaster catback on my other '98, I didn't like the tailpipe hangers rusting and the stock tailpipes fit better with the 10.5" rims I'm putting on (the flat spot), the stock tips are so nice too.

Plus my thinking was, I don't want this car as loud as my GT since this is a 'vert. The offroad X and Flow catback on the '98 sounded great but it was LOUD on the highway! Maybe I'll try the 3 chambers this time, if I don't like the stockers. Either way I can't wait to get rid of that restrictive factory H-pipe.

I had an offroad H-pipe with stock mufflers for awhile and it didn't sound all that great. Flowmasters really helped out the sound, especially with no tailpipes in place.

I borrowed a friends Magnaflow o/r x-pipe to do a dyno run, and it sure made the car sound nasty! Only thing I don't care for is, it has a raspy/tinny sound down in the lower rpms, like below 3k.

I'm going to order a BBK O/R X-pipe from the new speedshop near my house tomorrow. If I don't like it, I'll pop for the Flowmasters like last time. Just wanted to try something different this time...O/R X and Flow AT was LOUD on my GT!

I was using a MAC Prochamber (Which is cat free) with stock mufflers on my 03. I really liked it, I thought it was a good sound and an improvement without being obnoxious....might work for you.An intake will affect the sound too, I was using a densecharger. I do plan to go with a Borla stinger and my Prochamber in about a month...thats gonna SCREAM!!

What speedshop just opened?

If you haven't heard an x-pipe paired with flowmasters... be warned! That's probably the worst combo on a mustang i've ever heard!

From my experiences I wish I kept my original mufflers. I have a magnaflow O/R X with Magnaflow muffers (stock catback piping) and when I had the mufflers put on I lost a noticeable amount of low end torque. If I could afford to redo it all I would go with and H of some sorts and go with flowmasters. I now don't have enough back pressure on the low end and I hate it.

Lukovich Racing Engines & Performance Parts just opened a store in Chesterfield. More of a parts store and engine building shop, but they're right around the corner from me!

They matched a Summit price for me on the pipe and seem pretty fair on normal pricing.

I have heard this combo, I LOVED IT! My GT (2 chambers) had it, I just wanted something a little quieter since this is a 'vert. If the stock mufflers don't sound good with the X, I will try the Flowmaster 3 chambers.

Sounds good. I have a BBK offroad H-pipe if you need one. I had to get a shorty h-pipe with the longtubes. If you want it or want to hear what it'll sound like with an H-pipe, just shoot me a PM or an e-mail.
