O2 Sensor Extender?

I put on an o/r X-Pipe and the front driver side o2 sensor is about 2" to short, Instead of buying a pair of o2 sensor externders how bad would it be to cut and splice the wire to extend?

How come there's no issue with splice-in CEL fixes?
