O2 Sensors

I am going to need to replace my O2 sensors here shortly...

Question - Do I stick to Ford OEM ? Or go with after market brands such as Delphi / Bosch. The after market brands are considerably less in price... Does anyone know if they are comparable to Ford OEM quality ? Or should I even be worried about it and just go with the after market to save on $$

Reason I have to do this is because the previous owner did a home made hack job on the exhaust and took out the cats and put in MILs. The after market O2 sensors I have found are cheaper than the MILs. Since I have to get a new mid-pipe I've been looking at various brands, and listening to sound clips on youtube to get an idea of what brand of mid-pipe I want to go with. So far, I like SLP / Bassani / Borla stingers sound the best. Any opinion on any of these brands?

Oh ... one more thing. Anyone have an opinion between X and H mid-pipes ? Is one really better than the other ... such as equalizing the drone inside the car ? or straight through air flow ? Thanks

I think most would agree you should stick to Ford brand. You can check out

forgot to mention my car is a 99 cobra... stock as far as I know, for the second half of my question

Bosch is fine and supplys most companys with theirs as OEM. If you are gonna get another O/R H-pipe you are still gonna need the MIL eliminators. They should be inline before the O2, so why do you think you need new O2s? If they work now they should work with another pipe

I have a couple of reasons for doing this.

#1 I live near a environmentally regulated area in which CATs are required. (I live just outside the boundary but who knows when my area will be pulled into the regulation area)

#2 Im getting O2 sensor error codes (Main reason for replacement)

The price on the 02's in the previous link are good prices, Ive bought 02's from there before.

Ive never had a mid pipe with cats but they dont differ any from the one's w/ out cats except for the obvious. Ive owned BBK and it did not fit that good. The one I have on this Mustang was custom fabbed. Out of the ones you listed any of them should be good. They are all from good quality exhaust companies. Im looking at buying a Bassani Catted X at the moment.

The drone you here is mostly due to what kind of mufflers you have not the mid pipe. The performance difference between X and H is not measurable. Type of sound is the most difference. X's are more raspy while H's have more rumble but your muffler choice also depends on what kind of sound you will end up with as well.

I've replaced all four of my O2 sensors before by purchasing new ones from Steve at Tousley Ford. Excellent service and pricing, IMHO.

I'd recommend buying a set from PINTOMAN351 (I think that's his screen name) over on the corral. (he also posts on SVTP)

I think I paid like 70 or 80 bucks for a brand new OEM set: two front and two back. (they have the ford logo on them.)

They might have even been cheaper than that.

Check him out. He's a great guy and quick to ship.
