Okay so here's the deal. I have a 97 mustang gt. 137k miles and leaking. So I just found a low mile, cheap, 94 mark 8 engine and want to swap it . The thing is, that engine is obd1 i believe, and my car is obd2. Is this swap possible within emissions? If so, what do I have to do to make it work? I live in Mass btw, fairly strick emissions testing.

I have no idea. I'd assume the '94 Mark 8 engine is the same as the later Mark 8 engines, and therefore it should hook right up. Bill would probably know (LaserSVT) and I'm sure he'll show up here at some point, otherwise shoot him a PM.

You may want to look into a 96-98 cobra engine swap , would probably be less painful to get the job done since most everything would be plug and play staying with mustang parts of the same year model

huh, after a quick search of the interwebs i find that the 94's were 1's. when did they switch and wouldn't that be ideal for a 4v swap into a 79-95?

The engine management isn't a big deal in my mind because you already have an OBD2 computer, harness and all the required sensors in your 97 GT. Worst case, you have to tap for some of the extra sensors. What is a big deal, is the fact that the intake on the mark 8 engine won't fit in the mustang. You will cobra parts from the intake up. Notice the throttle body is at the back of the engine on the Mark 8, it interferes with the firewall of the mustang. Also, keep in mind that you will need some sort of tune to run that engine effectively.
