Can 89 octane be run without issues on a 99-01 cobra?

It'll run, but poorly I'm betting. I'm not sure if the 99-01 Cobra's have a knock sensor in them or not? Either way I wouldn't risk it.

i dont want to pay the extra 30 cents for premium. the recommended is 91 correct? I just hate buying premium fuel. If I do a tune on the car, can I also change it to 89 octane?:SNSign:

The extra 30 cents you spend on premium will save your engine, which could cost thousands of dollars to replace.

The ECU and engine was designed to run with 91 octane minimum. Could you run anything lower if you were in a pinch (say a couple of tanks of gas maybe)? Sure. But you would be a fool to floor it into the upper RPM band with low quality fuel...

No offense, but if the extra 30 cents of premium fuel is hurting you that badly, maybe you should consider selling the car and buying an econobox hybrid or a V6 model mustang? : shrug:

It's also possible that you'll get worse gas mileage using lower octane gasoline -- so it actually might end up costing you MORE than just buying the premium instead.

By the way, in the scheme of things, that extra 20-30 cents per gallon doesn't really add up to much. If you buy 12 gallons of gas once a week for a year @ $3.80/gallon it costs $2371. That same amount of gas at $4.00/gal costs $2496. Difference = $125.
