Oil Change

definetly go with the FL1A (not the CFL1A that one sux arse) in my experience it is the best one I have come across so far (cut up a few in my day ;)) Most oils are pretty much the same but if your looking for an extra edge synthetics have come a long way and I really recomend mobil1 5w30 synthetic as it has been shown to add as much as 6 hp at the wheels and better gas mileage, might leak out a bit more though... If it does start leaking more or burning more (flows like water at any temp so it gets passed worn seals easier than a conventional oil will) than changing back to conventional oils will cure that then you know not to do it again, no harm no foul.

Also put some new oil on the new filter ring. And make sure you get both oil plugs.

EDITED: I ment to say new. i got confused when i was typeing. Me and my buddy got in a fight over useing old oil on the oil filter seal in stead of new. I was thinking of that when i typed. Sorry guys

I'd think twice about using synthetic oil on your car. How many miles are on it? Synthetic oil in a high mileage engine(100xxxmi+) might cause some leaks. Somethin to think about. I've used Castrol GTX, but my last change I used Havoline cause I bought the case for really cheap and did 2 cars at once. Most should work fine.

i too use new oil on the seal. pre filling the filter is a good idea (helps with dry start up while oil is filling the filter). it should take 5 quarts, though it may show full at ~4 qts. i had to remark my dipstick to show full with 5 quarts. factory could not even mark dipsticks right. :-)

i use purolator pure one for the other cars, stangie gets pure one or the motorcraft filter (test out nearly identical). no fram. and motorcraft is half the price of pure one.

I use Motorcraft FL1-A also. I used Motorcraft 10W-30 motor oil and some Lucas Oil Stabalizer.

Next oil change, I'm staying with the Motorcraft oil filter but using 10W-30 Valvoline High Mileage oil. It's a mixture of both conventional oil with a bit of synthetic in it. I think it's the better way to go without going full out synthetic and getting too many leaks.

It is a nice touch to put 1/2 QT of oil in the new filter before you install it. This way the oil pump wont run dry during the first few seconds of startup. Think of it, the mains are running dry too if there is no oil in the filter. I always do this, unless the filter is sideways.

Also as Hissin stated, the dipsticks are wrong in these cars. Fill it up with 5 QTs and run the engine, allow it to sit and drain for 5min or more and check your dipstick. It will prolly read way over full. Mark this new spot as your full mark.

Wondered why my dipstick had 3 lines on it... Oh well Ive alwaysed used 5 quarts anyways.

add a bottle of your favorite brand of stop-leak to your oil and you won't have any leaking problems. I went to castrol synthetic blend and threw in some stop-leak and within 100mi I had no leaks at all

I use a Motorcraft FL1A filter and Valvoline oil. I've always used valvoline oil, don't ask me why, because I don't know. I've heard that Lucas Oil stabilizer can make hydraulic lifters pump way up and stick. I've read that on this forum before. I've always used conventional oil. And by the way, Congrats on your recent purchase of a 5.0 :flag:

as for the info on the dipstick reading low, i have Jerry to thank for that one. :nice:

in addition to what has been said (not in comment to anyone though), i would shy away from any oil product that has any teflon in it too, as the rollers dont like it.
