oil change

never changed my oil myself so i figured i need to learn. where are the drain plugs in the oil pan? will 5 quarts (one bottle) be enough? what weight? anything special involved in removing the oil filter?

wow....two oil pan plugs,one forward, one aft, look under there, you'll see em, I use, just from personal preference, Pennzoil 10w30, 5qts....are those bottles 5qts?... thought they were 4, and a Motorcraft filter, fl18a, think that's the number. When you take off the filter make sure the o-ring comes with it, if not just peel the old one off. I like to fill the new filter up bout half way, any more seems to spill when trying to thread it on. And wet the new o-ring with fresh oil, keeps it from tearing when it starts gettin tight. I just put my filters on hand tight. Nothing specail bout removing the filter, may need a filter wrench, if you don't have one/know what it is, just ask the parts store clerk or match it up to your new filter, prolly be in the same section as the oil. let it run for a while (fills up the filter) then top it off...good luck with it that's what I do

Hef pretty much nailed it....I will usually switch to 10w40 for the Summer..10w30 as it gets around Fall...
Your front drain plug is right behind your stabilizer bar...It'll dump a qt or so...Most do the back, then the front...
The filters gonna dump oil all over the wiring looms...if you want have a pc of folded cardboard to divert it from the bar when you pull the plug... and have some rags handy....

Yep. filter is FL1A (Hef was typing too fast).

Also...Those drain plugs are METRIC...Mine have somewhat rounded edges from places trying to use SAE sockets. I think it's 17mm, but IM not 100% sure.

My crescent wrench does not care if the fastener is metric, SAE or Imperial.

its not that hard to change the oil, and its so worth it to make sure the job was done right

My turn to post and have you not know if I was serious or not.

I would use my teeth before using a crescent wrench on a car.

Now house plumbing - oh yeah, I use crescents all the time (especially if I am tired and too lazy to go out to the garage).

Wal-mart has an oil change for $13.00 in my town, hard to get in there tho as it's always busy. They also sell a 5qt jugs of synthetic oil for $11.88
