I'm new to the forum, but have 2 Cobras, a 96 and an 03 both convertible.
I have developed an oil leak from the small machined hole in the oil cooler on the 96.
Can I just tighten the oil filter mount, or do I need new o rings.
I can't find any info on oil cooler parts.
What is involved with replacing the o rings etc.
Any help or info is appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Try tightening the large (1/2") allen bolt that the oil filter screws onto first. If that does not work, you will need to replace the o-rings for the oil cooler.

Do not let a mechanic tell you that you need to replace the entire oil cooler without trying the above steps first.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I will check the tightness of the allen bolt first, I did just change the oil just before this started, so this is probably it.
I assume that if I need the o rings I can order thru Ford or is there a better source?

Thanks again

Steve

Mine is the same way, I'm looking for an alternative to the water to oil setup.

See, this is where it gets confusing. I pulled the cooler and shaft off to replace the o-rings just in case. But, in the middle of my oil cooler shaft, there was a third o-ring and corresponding groove, that is NOT on any Ford computer graphic or parts list. So, good luck w/ that.

Tightened the shaft less that 1/4 turn and all is good.
Good luck to all that have more severe problems, but I think mine had been leaking a little for a long time and just got worse with the last oil change.
Now no oil leak.

Thanks again

There is an oil filter adapter behind the cooler. That uses a big gasket, and the oil filter has an O-ring. Those parts are expensive. I had to buy the adapter from the Dealer, it was 159 bucks, and the oil adapter is over 300.
