My buddy Jose came by today for "moral" support only.

I ACTUALLY changed my OWN damn oil

Anyway, the reason I changed it was to remove the drain hose and fitting for the Vortech in the oil pan.. The 7-8 months, my car has been leaking oil..

We changed the lower intake gasket (you all remember the pics) and Jose and I cleaned ALL the old oil residue under there a couple of months ago and checked all the fittings, bolts, etc, and tightened the clamp on the oil drain line.. Recently there has only been one or 2 beads in the SAME spot...

So today, we took the fitting off the oil pan, re-tefloned it, and put it back. We put a small bead of RTV around the OUTSIDE only of the fitting to hopefully prevent any oil from coming out around the threads.

WE'll see how that holds up.

Damn thing is still dripping (when I looked under the car) May be even moreso now.

I'll have to go back under tomorrow and look at it.

Take the drain back out and clean both it and the hole with acetone. Then apply RTV to the fitting and screw it back in. Let it dry overnight and all should be ok. If the threads are too deep then teflon tape will not work well.

Should I apply the RTV to the threads in the tapped hole, the threads on the fitting, or both??

Also, Should I be able to remove the fitting WITHOUT having to drain the oil?
I think the hole is tapped up a couple of inches, and the car will be slighly elevated backwards, so I think most of the oil would be towards the back of the oil pan..

Yea dope the fitting and the hole, just dont block the opening of the fitting with RTV of course. I applied a ton of RTV to mine, just in case. The hole is above the oil by a lot, so removing it with the pan full poses no problems. Make sure the line isnt leaking anywhere either.

Im writing this in the AM and going to work on it in about 2 hours, so I dont think you will be able to reply before I start...

BUT...

Im suspecting that some oil may be going around the nipple from inside the hose, even tho the clamp is on tight, because the fabricky type material around the hose is always saturated with oil about the first 2 inches or so. IM wondering if there is a slight cut in that hose, but it's hard to tell with the cloth around the rubber hose.

Just in case, how do you change that hose, what type do I use, and where do you get it?

That type of hose is only sold by Vortech. I know this because I looked high and low. It has that heat sheild type material on the outside and inner is kinda of hard. I doubt that's your problem though. I had the same leak and it was coming from the head unit side and running down the return line. I thought it was from the area your looking into right now. Get a flash light and follow that line up to the head unit. Feel around for wetness.

Joe,

Before yesterday, it was a small bead of oil. After we redid the fitting and reclamped the hose and I drove it, the oil was scattered a bit, as if the only possible leaking was a result of the 2 areas we worked on. The material the has oil on it on the hose is only about the first 2 inches or so...it doesnt seem to be wet any higher than that. I went out this morning and the clamp was able to be tightened a slight bit more. I then place another clamp next to it and tightened that one down. Ill drive it later and see what happens.



BTW...you up for Towers this Friday...Just for an hour or so..then CHOW!!!
