I took my car in for an oil change today and the mechanic told me i have an oil leak somewhere around my oil pan area, he said it might be the oil pan gasket. I have to take it in so they can put some sort of dye on it so they can tell where the oil is coming from exactly. I asked him if it was coming from the heads, and he said definately not, its coming somewhere from the oil pan and he is almost certain the oil pan gasket is bad. Have any of you heard about this and is it serious? What is the normal cost to fix something like that?
Will it affect my car right now?

I had an oil leak after my headswap. I see you have PI heads. My leak was where the front cover, the head, and the block all come together. It was on both sides. It ran down the edge of the front cover and collected near the ridge on top of the oil pan. Taking a quick glance at it, you might think the oil pan was leaking, but you will have to do more investigation. Start your car and lay under it (my God don't do anything stupid like put your fingers in the fan and blame me for it) and look for small drips coming from somewhere. On the driver's side look for oil all over the top of the power steering pump and on the passenger's side look for it all over the AC compressor. Good luck finding it and take some Advil for that sore neck afterwards.

EDIT: If you got oil coming from the heads, your car is f'd. If you had a bad head gasket, it would leak anti-freeze.

Thanks Chim, i think thats exactly where the oil leak is. I can see the oil residue on the oil pan and near the power steering pump, and i think it started when i go the headswap. What did you do to fix it. and no there is no antifreeze leaking. Did you fix yours, what did you find the problem to be, how much it cost to fix?
