Oil Loss Question

Hey guys,
The last few oil changes I have noticed the full 5 quarts are not draining out. This past oil change I recall just under 3 quarts drained. Others were between 3 and 4 approximately. The car is not driven much. It does not leak oil, and from what I can tell does not burn oil either. Every time I check the dipstick it reads full as well.

Anyone else with similar experiences?

The oil filter will trap some oil, notice how it's still heavy when you take it off, even after you let it drain for a bit. Also, most Foxes will burn at least a little oil. If the dipstick reads full, then you've got nothing to worry about.

Thanks Nik, I hope so. It's just that the oil has to be going somewhere.

This might be obvious to most, but also make sure you're draining both the fore and aft plugs on the pan.

Yeah, I drain both plugs. Majority of the oil draining from the rear plug.

You'd probably be suprised how many people don't drain both...

I can imagine. I just don't understand how I am only draining out approx 3 qts while the dipstick never drops.

How many miles on the engine?

Oil consumption is normal with age...to a point. I would recommend monitoring and adding some oil between changes.

Your never going to get the full 5 quarts out. but at least 4 should come out.

Not much, 60Kish. I do monitor the dipstick level often and it never drops. I do not notice it burning, nor is there a drop of anything under the car.
