I've got a 69 mustang with a 302, I'm replacing my oil pan, and the gasket that came off isn't gonna cut it when i put it back together, so for the cork gasket i know i'm supposed to use a good coat of "red" RTV, can't i just use the orange stuff? Cuz I have orange at home, but not red. I know i have to replace the cork side gasketes with silicone, but what about those front and rear seals, they are kinda like half circle rubber gaskets that are for the rear main seal and the front cap, do i still use those or just silicone it?

I really wanted to know about that gasket tho, cuz i'm about to go do it in about an hour, I have this stuff called "The Right Stuff" it's thicker than RTV, it's OEM approved and it's black, it makes excellent gaskets and i used it on my intake manifold front and rear seals and haven't seen a drop yet, can't i just use this on the oil pan?

You could do away with all of that with a one piece rubber gasket & pan rail stiffeners.
I had orange stuff on mine and it worked fine. Have a rubber felpro now. Use all of the gaskets that come with the set. Put whatever color youre using on the cork and a little dab where the cork meets the rubber. Make sure the pan rails are flat. If they arent pound them flat with a hammer.

Yep. I used to use black rtv all the time. It would only seal for a while. I used the cork and the plastic seals. Put a little extra sealer in the corners at the half circles to ensure a good seal. But I did the same, too. Get the felpro rubber. Comes with studs to hold your pan up. Make it much easier that way. If nothing else, buy the rubber for the studs :rlaugh: It will make your life much easier. Less cussin.

I put the pan on with those front and rear rubber seals, and put a thick bead of high temp orange RTV on the oil pan, slid it up in there and bolted the oil pan down, the damn thing leaks like a siv now, I've never heard of the one peice oil pan gaskets for my motor.....?

I'm about to throw in the towel and pay someone to do my rear main seal, and the oil pan, get it all done with.

Did you let the RTV dry some before putting the pan on? Because if you didnt then you arent going to get a good seal, let it set and dry more, then when you put the pan on and torque the bolts down it quishes and gives you a good seal. Good Luck :nice:
