oil pan gasket help needed

For my '68 302:

I have the oil pan surface clean and dry, and have cleaned the bottom of the engine block too. I have the 4 piece Fel Pro gasket set and a tube of 3M Super weatherstrip/gasket sealer. So do I just glue the cork portions to the pan? What about the 2 rubber pieces, do I put sealer on them? Any help is appreciated.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT USE THAT YELLOW SNOT

Go back to the parts house and get a tube of Permatex Ultra Blue and use it to tack the gaskets to the block. Tha 3M yellow snot is absolutely the WORST substance known to man , to remove after it's been baking there in place for a year or so.

Please tell me you'll toss it and use the proper sealer. I just tried to remove some of that yellow s*@t from a 351C front cover and that damn stuff just wouldn't come off.

Funny you mention that , because the oil pan was a bear to remove! The guy that did the oil pan gasket 2 years ago used that stuff, I wasnt sure, thats why I asked. How about the rubber parts, do I tack them at all? And you said glue the gasket to the block? Do I use the Permatex on the pan also? Sorry to keep asking questions, but this is my first time doing this, and I dont want to re-do it. Thanks.

I just use enough Permatex to make the cork gasket stick to the b-to-oil pan rail. And a dab in the corners where the end seals and cork meet. the end seals don't need it otherwise. Another tip is to try the one piece gasket, but you'll need the pan rail stiffeners that came with the 80's up 5.0 motors to use them. With the one piece, you need no sealer at all. Installing the pan while the motor is installed is also a breeze, if you don't toss the plastic studs that come with the gasket kit.

Thanks very much for the help, will be picking up the Permatex tomorrow, and installing the gasket on Sunday.
