Oil pan leak, low oil level sensor

Anyone had any experience fixing a leak at the low oil level sensor, mine is leaking, I took a wrench and tightened it up but the leak is still there, it didnt turn much when i took the wrench to it, is there a seal or gasket on it??

Yes, there is a gasket for the sensor. It looks like a big flat rubber washer.

yeah i purchased mine from resto a few years back and i havent put it on yet ... I dont drive the car much so it sits in the garage ,but im taking ou the engine this dec and will be replacing the gasket as well.

There is a gasket. The original tends to dry out and crack.

I got mine from lrs....make sure you install with a little bit of rtv. Gotta do it when you do an oil change.

I fixed it, just put a oil drain plug in place of the sensor, I keep tabs on my oil pressure and oil level anyways

That's what I was gonna suggest! Plug it! Chances are, it doesn't work any. and if you rely on the light coming on to warn you about oil problems, you deserve to get a seized engine

I did the same thing, went to Napa and bought the cap to plug the switch. My switch was actually leaking itself not even the gasket was bad; figured the thing is useless anyhow just get rid of it...

Mine was the switch leaking as well, came down to a new switch for $49 plus shipping or the plug that was $3.00. It was a no brainer for me!

After a few years of my car sitting around and leaking, and me blaming the rear main, I finally discovered today that my sensor is leaking as well. Did I understand correctly that a drain plug is the same size and thread? The wires are cut on mine anyway and it is useless.

Upon further investigation, looks like it takes a 20mm x 1.5 pitch thread.

Mine too, I replaced the gasket and later found the sensor was leaking also. The price is now $78.99 for the dam sensor and $11.99 for the gasket!!!!! Next oil change it is getting plugged!!

for those that plugged it and discarded the sensor, did you bypass the low oil light? or did you just take the bulb out from behind the dash? also, how did the rtv work out? should rtv be applied on both sides of the gasket or just the oil pan side?
