To start I have an 87 gt. Well I have noticed within the last couple days that when im driving my oil pressure guage will drop down to zero at seemingly random times and then bounce back up to normal pressure. I thought that it was just the gauge, but now the motor has started ticking very loud and it is my conclusion that the motor isn't getting oil where it should. Obviously I shouldn't drive it now until i figure this out. It does have oil in it. What needs to be replaced? The sending unit? the pump? any info would be great, I really need to figure this out. Thanks.

try an autometer oil pressure gauge maybe. would cost about the same and be an accurate gauge.

sounds like the oil pump is most likely going out since it is now ticking. not getting oil to the lifters probably. oil pump is not fun to replace.

any info on miles, how its driven, mods? might be a place to start. usually oil pumps dont go out unless the miles are getting high
