Oil Pressure Problems...

I'm on my way to work concentrating on keeping my car from overheating (my cooling system has seen better days) and I stop at a light outside my office... the car starts idling weird and I look at my gauges. Everything looks fine except my oil pressure which has dropped below the L. I gave the car a little gas and the needle bumped up a bit, but not much. For s**ts and giggles I turned the car off since I was sitting in traffic and when I re-started it the needle came back up and I went on my way. Then less than a half mile later while driving through the parking garage at work it happened again. I turned the car off and went into my office for a bit... when I came back out and cranked the car it idled fine and the pressure looked OK. The oil level in the car is fine. I realize the stock gauges are completley inaccurate, but since I've gotta do something about my fan and radiator, I really don't have the money to be buying gauges right now. I was just wondering if this sounds electrical or like I really might have a problem??? Thanx!!!

I had the same problem. Ground out the wire for your sender and the gauge should should go up all the way(3/4). if it doesnt theres either a wiring problem or a gauge problem. after thats done check pressure if its good then your sender is bad which is less than 10 bucks. good luck

I am with Derek. worst case, grab a 10 dollar parts store gauge and set it on the console for a few days. that way you can see what gives.
even when the stock gauge components function properly, the gauge still sucks.
most other methods will leave doubt in yoru mind.
good luck.
