There should be an extension going into the block near the oil filter, its an aluminum bar if I remember correctly. Damn, you could have asked me on aim
The extension is in there because I dont think an electrical sender would fit against the block without it.

::edit

Then again.. i could have replied on aim...

There are actually two for his setup, but it goes on the end of the steel extention just in front of the oil filter.

The original sender that came in the car(as well as a few aftermarket ones) were too "Fat" to fit in without the extension... works fine with my mechanical gauge and nylon tubing though

I forgot what the ohm range of ford sending units was... as long as it fits in the hole, give it a shot!

The debacle is if you should use sealing tape on the connection to the block.. I hear some people say no, and some people say yes. It had to do with the ground, the gauge needs to measure the correct resistance between the sender and groud. I never liked electrican sending units, so maybe someone else can give you a tip on how to make sure it seals good.

I believe you bought the version for the idiot light (or non-gague unit).

It should look more like the ones pictured above.

Sorry I see you have '65, so that probably works (unless you have at GT or coverted to gauges). I think you can run that one with or without the extension (it's not as big as the gauge version).

I think the purpose of the extention is to put the sensor in a location more easily serviced.

If that sensor fits in the hole, just do it, If it's steel, I would use teflon tape. If its brass, no.

Sorry to hijack, but now that we know where the oil pressure sending unit is, could you point out where the water temp sending unit goes? 65 289

Screws into a hole in the intake, near the thermostat, I think.

So it looks like I may not have one, but I could put one in place of this plug in my manifold? My intake is some Edelbrock performer 289 or something like that:

I wonder why some of you guys dont equip your car with a water temp gauge on the intake manifold if it was missing.

I posted a topic a while back because i think the previous owner was a dumbass and put loc tite on the threads that screw into the block. I wanted to look at my oil sending unit because my oil pressure gauge read "low". So im not sure if its the gauge or the oil unit. But I did have someone replace the printed circuit board because of a power serge destroyed the last one .
