oil pressure sending unit

There should be an extension going into the block near the oil filter, its an aluminum bar if I remember correctly. Damn, you could have asked me on aim :rlaugh:
The extension is in there because I dont think an electrical sender would fit against the block without it.

::edit

Then again.. i could have replied on aim...

The original sender that came in the car(as well as a few aftermarket ones) were too "Fat" to fit in without the extension... works fine with my mechanical gauge and nylon tubing though :)

that is one i bought.

I forgot what the ohm range of ford sending units was... as long as it fits in the hole, give it a shot!

The debacle is if you should use sealing tape on the connection to the block.. I hear some people say no, and some people say yes. It had to do with the ground, the gauge needs to measure the correct resistance between the sender and groud. I never liked electrican sending units, so maybe someone else can give you a tip on how to make sure it seals good.

I think the purpose of the extention is to put the sensor in a location more easily serviced.

If that sensor fits in the hole, just do it, If it's steel, I would use teflon tape. If its brass, no.

I wonder why some of you guys dont equip your car with a water temp gauge on the intake manifold if it was missing.

I posted a topic a while back because i think the previous owner was a dumbass and put loc tite on the threads that screw into the block:mad:. I wanted to look at my oil sending unit because my oil pressure gauge read "low". So im not sure if its the gauge or the oil unit:shrug:. But I did have someone replace the printed circuit board because of a power serge destroyed the last one:( .
