My friend bought a 97 cobra just under a year ago and has no problems with the car until now. I just did an oil change on his car adn the oil filter was bulged. I didn't like that so i did an oil pressure check and it reads 80psi at idle and 120psi revved up. It sounds to me that the pressure releif valve is broken or faulty.

Has anyone else run into this? Im just putting out the question to see before i spend a few days pulling the engine out.

Thanks

Dan

Wow, is that 80psi at warm or cold idle?

I see 80-90psi at cold idle (autometer electric oil pressure gauge here), which is "normal."

I hope the previous owner didn't put 20W50 mineral racing oil in it. What oil did you use?

You could jack up the engine and pull the pan to check the pump. Stock pumps will not generate 120psi.

Where did you check the pressure?

How many miles on the car (or engine)??

The stock idle should be around 38-40 Psi I believe and it should only go up to 80-90 when revved......
