Welcome to SN.

Stock gauge? I would replace the sender if it has not been renewed recently. Better yet would be to get a real gauge for your piece of mind. The stockers are almost useless.

Good luck.

As Hissin stated: The stock gauges are more for show than actually monitoring your engines vital signs.

My stocker drops when I am at idle and then moves up when I am cruising down the road. I don't really trust it and will probably put a autometer under the radio this winter...

How many miles on your car if you don't mind me asking?

The more milage on the motor (if abused) will allow the bearing clearances to increase. This means you need more oil to 'fill' the gaps on the rotating assembly and this can cause a drop in oil pressure.

For gauges... Autometer is probably the most common. Either electric or Mechanical will be much beter than stock

Just did an autometer water/oil this weekend, much better than stock and a good piece of mind feeling.

Yep, any gauge out there (almost) is much better than stock. AM, VDO, Stewart, Smith, Magnetti Marelli, et al are all very good gauges.
AM is the most popular and very nice stuff.
Good luck.

Please do yourself a favor and get an aftermarket gauge like others have stated. It sould be one of the first mods on any car. Not for the looks but for the peice of mind.

I have a similar issue coming up and I have a pretty good feeling it isn't a bad guage. It has shown consistency on the oil pressure guage the entire time I have had the car. It is getting (over time) lower and lower...just little by little. I have 155k on the engine.
