Hey,

I guy is selling a 5.0 with a broken Oil pump drive. Can the car still be driven? As I would need to drive the mustang approx 30-40 miles to get it home to where I would be able to pull the pan and fix it.

Or is it a tow truck job?

Thanks

I wouldn't drive it. Remeber, the pump pushes the oil to where it needs to go. Without it, you'd lock it up within 5-10 miles.

If you also feel no problem driving a car with a thrown rod, sure go for it.

No such thing as a dumb question, no matter how obvious. That's what keeps us from stupid mistakes and costly time and money.

I'm sure you'd come up with something smart to say if the guy drove the car 30-40 miles and wrecked the motor, and then came on stangnet to post. I don't know what you think this is, but i thought Stangnet was supposed to be a place where any stang owner could find help and advice - to even the most simple (in this case, one of the most important) questions.

To the poster, i'm pretty sure the answer is obvious by now. Do not drive the car until the problem is fixed.. have it towed!!

Make sure the motor is good, make the guy write you a note that says if the motor is no good, he´ll take the car back or lower his price. Make sure it is in writing. Maybe he´s selling it because he ****ed up the motor and that´s how he found out the oil pump drive was broken.

This is a hell of a good point! Maybe even finding a public notary to place their little stamp on it if you can. Witness+Writing=one covered butt should it be shot!
