Ok i just got my new oil pump drive shaft, I was wondering which end went into the oil pump, the short end or the long end? Heres a pic for ya. I slid both ends into the Distributor, but one end was to long and one end kinda was to short. I dont have the oil pump in front of me right now, so i cant check it. Thanks

I believe the long end goes in the distributor. On my ARP shaft one end is sharp and one end is blunt and the sharp end faces up.

HMM, both my ends are pointed the same.....

I have just been messin with this little colalr that goes on the shaft, I know its suppose to be used so when you pull the dist. the shaft wont come out, but how hard was it to put on the shaft?

It goes on pretty tight and I highly suggest you use it. Getting the shaft out of the oilpan can be fun.

Umm im sure it can be done, you wont be able to use the collar to keep it from coming out the next time you pull the dizzy. Most likly it will fall into the pan if not perfect.... Iv never done it, but i heard of that happening

I dont remember exactly which end goes in the pump. I do know that if you do it wrong the distributor will not go down all the way and you will have an oil leak. If you can I would put it in one way and put the dist in if you can see if it seats all the way down or not. If it does then your set. If not then turn it around.

I think the longer end goes into the distributor because the hole in the distributor is deeper than the hole in the pump. I could be wrong though. The last time I messed with it was like 5 years ago.

here you go, hope this helps. I pulled this out this morning.

The long end, and on my factory shaft it happens to be more pionted goes to the dizzy. The shorter end goes to the pump.

Here is a pic of mine, the end with the retainer is the distributor end.

You mentioned earlier that one end seemed too short & the other was too long. Well the one end may have seemed too long but don't forget there in about 1/4" of block materal that does between the dizzy and the retainer ring.

Ok cool, i see that you have your collar on it. Does it matter which way to put on the collar? Mine is a bit different than yours. You would think as long as its on there it wouldn't really matter. Thanks for the info and pictures.

I don't really think that the collar matters, I think it will do the job either way.

I do think that the way its pictured above would resist pulling the shaft out more, rather than it sliding down the shaft.

But we are not talking abot a great deal of force here, I don't see why it would really matter.

Ok well, i tried puttin the shaft into the motor today.... and it doesnt fit .... Its not long enough to go through the block and stick out so the distrubutor can go into it, i tried both sides and with and without the collar on it. The product number is M 6605 A341 and its FRPP. Here the link, http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FMS-M-6605-A341&N=700+4294861600+115&autoview=sku

Any ideas why im having these problems...

****EDIT: Nevermind I have it figured out....

I did see that note.... But what does it mean...

Well shaft doesnt stick through all the way but it was ok, cuz the end of the distrubtor slides into the hole.... I was so happy when i figured that out.
