iv never changer my own oil and i just questioned why the hell dont i? where is the drain plug located on the pan? how much oil should i refill it with and are there any specific brands that are good. lastly where can i take my used oil?
There are two drain plugs/bolts on the bottom of the oil pan. Once you get under the car you'll notice the oil pan has two humps in it. There is a bolt on each hump to drain the oil.
I buy a 5 quart jug of oil at WalMart. I like the Castrol Syntec 5W30 but opinions vary on what type and weight of oil to use. You can take your used oil to Jiffy lube or a place that does oil changes. Just don't mix the oil with gas or coolant and they will take it.
a repair manual will really help you out with doing routing maintenance like this, if you choose to start doing it. the books are worth it for torque specs alone.
I use Mobil 1 Synthetic oil. I used to use Castrol, until my buddy took his engine apart one day after about 100,000 miles of nothing but Mobil you could still see the hatch marks on the inside of the cylinder walls like they were a day old.
Also DON'T use a high volume Oil Filter like a K&N on a mostly stock engine. A Motorcraft filter will do just fine.
