I was changing my rear main seal and I accidently pull the sensor off the oil pan. I was wondering does the sensor slide in and out or is it supposed to be attached.

My car has a spring loaded clip which retains the low oil sensor. Its a PITA sometimes to get back in. Or to find if dropped.

The sensor on the side of the pan is the oil level sensor that works the low oil light on the dash. It doesn't connect to the computer, so you can drive the car without it working.

I was wondering if the sensor needs to stay in so oil will not leak out. The part that screw on is there but the part that has wires on it just comes out when pulled on (not hard).

It isn't supposed to leak oil with the wire connected or disconnected.
