More info please, What car , engine size, horse power ect.
Is this a engine oil cooler or trany oil cooler. Race car or street car.
If it a engine oil cooler then I ask WHY do you need one for the street.
Are you running hot, do you have a electric fan or stock with SHROUD.

Max oil temp should not exceed 250 on hard pulls
Max water temp should not exceed 240.
230ish water temp on hard pulls at the track.
Oil doesnt break down till about 300 or so, hotter with synthetics.
but dont go there or you will break things as this is max TEST temps.
This info is on many racing web sites and does very a little but not much.

In the 911 circles, they don't like to see above 240 on the air/oil cooled flat sixes. Oil also performs a large cooling function, so removing the cooler might just shift that load back onto your radiator, aggravating your situation. An oil cooler is a good idea... I'd solve for why your engine is running hot.

Another option would be to move the oil cooler to one side of the car, if possible.

everything you could possible think of has been done to the cooling system. Im just looking to drop another 10*.
my oil cooler is 7" x 19" . so the bottom 7" of the radiator core is getting used hot air for cooling.
on a hot calif. day im running around 205* water and 210* oil.
I know those aren't scortching temps, but im looking to drop the water temp 10*

I think I will experiment and remove the cooler and see what changes and how much.

just as I thought,
I removed and bypassed the oil cooler, and the water temp dropped right where I wanted it to (15* cooler.) 185-190

now my oil temp is up about 20* 220-230

I had a feeling that would happen. I can't relocate this oil cooler its too large.

now I have to decide:

go back to using the oil cooler, and having water at 205 and oil at 210 +/-

or not use the oil cooler and have the water 185-190 and oil 220-230. +/-

or try to squeeze a smaller oil cooler somewhere other than near the radiator.

The rule of thumb!

Water Temp or Oil Temp above 240 for any length of time is HOT.
