Oil Viscosity

What oil viscosity do you guys run in the 5.0? I picked up Mobil 1 10-30 yesterday. I found out the guy that owned the car before me ran castrol 20-50. That crap had some kinda cult following in 1989. I don't plan to run that stuff. Will it be ok to switch or do i need another viscosity other that 10-30. Thanks , I have no owner's manual and I am still learning the 5.0.

Any oil at all will do as long as it's fresh and clean..along with filter and 10w30 is a perfect all weather oil. The new oil may show you less pressure on the gauge, but that's only a result of the lighter viscosity..it will flow easier at all temps. Ignore the slightly lower pressure and know your eninges getting oil up top easier and quicker when she's cold.

5w30 is factory, I always like to use 10w40 it helps a little in the heat. 20w50 would increase your oil pressure so you may see different readings on your gauge,

I run 20W-50 in the summer here (car is started in temps no less than 80*F and sees 115*F). I like all the above advice. One wants to run the thinnest oil which maintains pressure in ALL conditions (hot idle is likely when it is the lowest). If a 10W-30 does that for you, great. If not (or ancillary issues like excessive blowby) pop-up, step it up a bit.

Oh yeah, 10W-40 for me in the winter. If I had new mills, I would run the thin stuff.

Mobil 1 10W30 here.

I just switched from 10W30 dino oil to 10W30 Mobil 1... no problems, shows slightly less oil pressure (just enough to register on the stock gauge).
