Oil?

i JUST switched on sunday from chevron dino stuff to mobil 1 synthetic. i was with a lot of you, i thought that synthetic was more hype than anything, a waste of $$, and that my engine never needed it. well, i figured what the hey and tossed some in.

i was rewarded with a nice lil SOTP torque gain. :nice: now, i don't think of it as expensive oil, but as a cheap HP mod. but, there's no reason regular stuff wouldn't work just fine for you.

Glutus maximus dyno. Seat of the pants. My S10 gets about 30 - 40 extra miles per tank with synthetic oil. This equals about 2 gallons or $3. 9000 miles between oil changes is about 26.5 tanks of gas times $3 a tank is about $80 in fuel savings between oil changes. 196k on the clock (mostly highway miles) at this point and still no oil has to be added between extended oil changes. I would say that mobil1 not only pays for its self, but puts $$$ in my pocket in saved gas and oil changes, not to mention lack of wear to the engine. I also run it in the tranny (4l60e) and rear end, both have never given any trouble. I hope you nay sayers are not still running points too. Believe it or not there has been progress in lubricants in the years since our cars were built.

You must have picked up a magic bottle there bud. Seriously, sure there's been progress in oil. theres been a huge increase in quality of the organic stuff too. I have tried using synthetic oil (blends too) in several of my engines. I noticed a fuel milage increase. However, I got the same increase when I switched to havoline's "formulated for incresed milage" oil which is cheaper. Didn't notice any power gain in either case. Not saying it isn't possible but it would be marginal in most cases.

oh, yea and no points here

Kinda of topic, but anyone use the dot 4 brake fluid?
