Oil??

One thing Ive always heard was that your not supposed to change to synthetic if you havent used it from the start or almost from the start of your engines life?

I disagree. Never a better time then the present to switch to synth. Amsoil is great!!

You can even mix synth & non-synth. Not sure why you'd want to but you can.

I just bought 5/20 FULL SYNTHETIC MOTORCRAFT from my local SVT Dealer. poured it in and I LOVE IT!!

I never knew they made full synthenic 5/20. I was always told they only make Synthetic Blend on 5/20 which is what my 01 cobra came with...My car definitely feel better...

I've heard that mixing in a quart of Lucas Oil is good too. Any opinions?

is that like Mystery Oil? I believe that as long as you are diligent with your oil changes, there should be no need for an additive...to me additives just turn into slug since it doen't have the same vicosity breakdown as oil..... just my take on it

Have no idea. I know this guy with an 1994 Maxima V-6. Car has 250K miles. It runs perfect, oil is clean, never rebuilt or did any work to engine. I think it holds 5 quarts. He says he puts four quarts mobile 1 and 1 quart lucas oil and thats his trick. Just curious to see if anyone else heard of this. Sounds kinda wierd to me.

Your in luck..I work at a chemical plant that makes oils and various lubricants.
The head chemist has had Mobile 1(full synthetic) broke down in the lab to see whats in it. Compared to other oils hes broke down this one is superior to most. Thats what I run in my 01 GT. Amsoil is also a very good oil but Mobile 1 is cheaper and avalible at Walmart. 5W30 is also the best choice for year round driving with a street driven machine. Just as a added note..Amsoil makes a lifetime oil filter that I would probably say is the best. Im getting ready to purchase one myself. It would run you around $100 or so depending on the distributor but is well worth it. The chemist at my plant used to work for one of the head guys at Amsoil so I trust his recommendations. hope this helps.

What exactly happens when you mix synthetic with regular oil, all in one shot (like half synthetic and then mix half regular after an oil change)? I didn't do it myself, I've been using synthetic forever, i'm just curious as to what it does to the motor.

I pick Fram over Motorcraft. Why motorcraft cuz ford uses it?

Fram oil filters did not hold up very well, at least that's what an oil filter test has stated (it is out there on the web, someone did a very thorough test of many of the available oil filters on the market - you could try Googling for it or running a search in here or on Corral.net's msg board for the exact study results).

Hmmm Ive always heard Fram was good. I just started running Royal purple synthetic and picked up a Fram filter to go with it. Next time I might get a Motorcraft. I was going to get the K & N but it was $12.95 that's kind of expensive compared to $3.29 for the Fram and $3.99 for the motorcraft and its only going to be used for 3,000 miles anyway so....Thanks for the info/advice COBRA90GT

I'm not sure what you mean? Nothing really happens it just isn't as good as full synth in my opinion. Doesn't hurt anything to mix was all I was pointing out.

You cease to amaze me Roush21. You slam Mobil 1 oil in another post and tell everyone, "You get what you pay for". Then in this post you admit to using FRAM filters because the K&N is too expensive. :nice:
