0 weight oil is bad news...I know guys that have blown rods and bearings from super thin oil like that...
That being said, most people run 5w-30 because that is what Ford recommends (they only suggest 5w-20 to bump the EPA gas estimates). In the summer I run 10w-30, but my engine is older, and I'm running 14lbs through the stock engine so I don't want any oil getting past those rings
Stick with Mobil 1 and a Motorcraft filter

Ditto on this for the most part. However, I'd stick with 5w-30 M1, but buy the Extended Performance Mobil1. There have been some issues with the regular M1 5w-30 that I've read about. It not passing some of the tests it should pass and things like that so I switched to the EP formula. Stick with the Motorcraft filter.

The cam selection will not change what type of oil you should use. These engines run roller cams, which do not need any specific oil. Slider cams are different though.
Anyway, I recommend mobil 1 and a motorcraft filter. My 97' has 163k miles running this combo and runs perfectly. I normally run 5W-30 in the summer and 5W-20 in the winter, and go 6k between changes.

I meant the M1 full synthetic also.
Use the Mobil1 Extended Performancein the pic below instead of the regular M1 synthetic in the second picture.

The reason I say this is because there have been some tests that found that the Regular 5w-30, which is still a synthetic, might not pass the tests that allow it to comply with the full synthetic specifications.
The Extended Performance performed much better in the tests and IMO is the better oil of the two. I switched to the Extended performance 5w-30 at my last change and I can feel a difference in how the engine runs. Also, valvetrain noise has all but completely disappeared. I'll still be sticking with the 4k oil change interval though.

It's more specific, I just want to amke sure that that's clear to anyone else who reads this thread. It's not M1 as a whole that didn't pass a test. ONLY the REGULAR M1 5w-30.
The Extended Performance formula and the others were ok.
I can't remember the exact thread(s) I read it in as it was a little while back. It was on Bob Is The Oil Guy - Powered by Motor Oil . There's a bunch of good info on different oils on that site.
Why do they think that they spun a bearing, or blew a rod because of a 0w oil?
I find that hard to believe...they saying it wouldn't have happened if they ran a 5w oil?
