Uhhh the numbers you posted are for Cobras not Gt's. In 1993 the rated output of the 5.0 was 215 I believe and the cobra's were 235, as you have stated in your thread. Also in 94-95, the 5.0's put out the same 215 hps if I'm not mistaken, and then in 96 (with the introduction of the 4.6 mod motor) they bumped it up to 225. Then in 99, the factory rated hps were 260. Just making a correction and no flame intended.

pretty sure 91-93 5.0's were all rated at 225, down to 215 in 94-94, up to 225 again in 96 up to 99 where they went to 260. Camaros/Firebirds 1993-1995 were all rated at 275 excepting special models, and 1996-1997 were 285. 305 was for the WS6 likely, and 305 on the Mustang side is a Cobra.

Theres a few inaccuracies, but the trend is true - HP wise the Mustang has never compared favorably to the F-body cars. Add weight into the equation though and the Mustangs start pulling up. iIn 88 I don't think you could get a Camaro that wouldn't get smoked by a Mustang...

oh, and for the earlier years I think we should use Trans Am numbers...the gap would get pretty big some years

2005 will be the final year of the Omega platform, which underpins the Holden Monaro (and, consequentially, the Pontiac GTO). For model year 2006, GM will be using the Zeta platform, which is a re-engineered version of the Omega. I understand it will be a tad smaller, stiffer, and lighter. The 2006 GTO will be the first GM-USA car to benefit from the new platform. Chevrolet is making something on the Zeta platform for 2007, though nobody seems to be 100% certain it will be a Camaro. I'm hoping for a Chevelle, myself, since it shares its platform with the GTO, just as the original did...

Keep in mind also that the GTO, unlike the Mustang, is not a Ponycar, but a Grand Tourer-- yeah, it's heavier, but it is also noticeably larger, and has been praised for its rear leg room. Whereas the Mustang is more of a Boulevard cruiser, the GTO is definitely a road trip car.

The 2005 GTO will be powered by the 6.0L LS-2 V-8, as used in the 2005 Corvette, albeit with slightly less torque (395 lb/ft instead of 400), due to the fact that the Omega platform doesn't allow quite enough space for the Corvette's intake manifold.

Comparing the GTO and the Mustang is just plain stupid, and I'm getting sick and tired of the ignorance displayed by virtually everyone who does so. It is an Apples and Oranges comparison. GET OVER IT!

Since when is the Camaro coming back, after '02 the Camaro was discontinued and declared dead.


Oh and the C5 vette could and did take the 04' cobras. The C6 Z06 most likely will be better than the next gen cobra. Unless Ford decides to really beef up the engine at make it cost more. It's unfair to match a Cobra with a Vette, one is 10 grand more and is more refined and better tuned.
