Old to New Style Fox Dash

It's not a mod I would envy you doing. That much is certain. I'm a bit biased though. I prefer the look of the 85/86 dash compared with the 87+ anyhow. My only complaint is the lack of a good location for an aftermarket tach that doesn't look ghetto.

But yes... wiring is significant issue when you're talking about swapping. Even if I did like the newer interior better, I'd have to think long and hard about the swap.

why not put a different harness in with the dash to match though? or your lookin at problems for the engine harness? if your doin a complete swap including front end and interior plus everything else 87-93 then you might as well put the harness in it to match...

yeah, i'd probably try and use as much of the newer harness as i could. i can forsee problems with stuff like the fusebox, lighting switches, guage-to-sender wires, etc.

i'm thinking of doing this to a '79 Zephyr.

You know, more and more, i'm thinking i should buy a totalled late Fox and transfer EVERYTHING over: motor, trans, suspension, rear, dash and as much of the wire harness as i can.

i had previously been planning something more ambitios: '99-01 Cobra parts (for the 5-lug, rims, and IRS in particular) ... i can always upgrade later, i suppose.

good plan, wiring can be a pita

I bought the old dash and some interior parts from a guy who updated his 85 coupe to 91 coupe interior. He used all the underdash wiring, heater box, fuse block, vacuum hoses everything from the 91 to convert. You really need a donor car and plenty of time.

It looked awesome and he said that it wasn't all that bad. He did say that some of the holes for the dash are in different places so he had to drill new ones or adapt. Good luck with your project.

I have an 86 that i converted to a newer style dash 87-93. I swapped all my harnesses out also, might as well switch to mass air anyway so 89+ is the best. I kept the front end though and just spliced in the headlight wiring.....cake. The hardest part i found was mounting the top part of the dash to the brackets below the windshield. You have to bend them down and every which way to make everything fit. takes some time but it well worth it. if you have any q's feel free to pm me.
