Once again, polished stuff, this time alternator

Once again I have messing with polishing under the hood
I bought used alternator, put some polish stuff and here we go, on next a few days I will do same with my stock alternator and than I will have spare one
BTW I have painted front opening and middle part in black because dust will mess with polish all the time,and everything inside alternator is cleaned too

Whats next, well I have to do something with that ugly yellow power steering reservoair, paint in black or red ,what you think guys
BTW alluminum part on power sreeting will be polished too

Ernan, I did the same thing... only I did it over the course of about 2 years! I'd do a little, then redo it, then redo it, etc. The more you do it them more you'll lose that slight haze you see in the pics. I too painted the part with the holes black... it was too much of a PITA to polish.

As for the PS reservoir, I painted mine black and suggest black for you too. It really makes a difference in that it doesn't become as noticeable. The thought of polishing the PS pump crossed my mind, but I after seeing all the ridges and such I decided against it... I was feeeling lazy at the time!

Here's mine with the PS painted black, I think it looks SO much better this way. Look how it just sort of blends in and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

"Seth"...I still have my PS base stock ugly, with a chrome sleeve over the neck. I still have to paint mine.

Starting to "take shape".. For the $$$, you cant beat it.!

Does any one know for certain what the material of the alternator cases is made of? Is it cast of aluminum or is it die cast zinc alloy? The reason I ask is that I machine a lot of aluminum parts, and subsequently do a lot of aluminum finishing. If these castings are infact aluminum and not zinc or aluminum/magnesium I'd like to do some testing to try some alternative finishing techniques. Also, if any of you have any specimens you could provide, PM me a for a ship to address...

Soupy, I don't know the difference, but it sure looks and shines up and sands like aluminum to me.

Rob, are you saying instead of:

Mine should say:
Squint, lest you be blinded by my BIG YELLOW HONKING INTAKE!?

I'm actually tossing the idea around of poliching it over the winter. What do you think?

Also, Ernan if you can find the PS neck cover that Rob mentioned, that would look killer to. Its on my list of things to eventually get, but I haven't really seen them anywhere, and I don't want it right now as it may slow me down.

Are there any side effects to not running that temp sensor into the CAI? My turbo kit has no provision for it.

i would assume you could run the fox iat in the lower intake runner where the hole is for it.

paul...when built my homemade cai a few weeks ago, i never got around to drilling out and tapping a hole for the intake sensor, and i haven't had any problems with that, YET...do i have to drill and tap the cai?

Pretty simple answer to that question.

It was obviously placed there for a reason, there shouldnt be second thoughts about putting it back on.

Personally I love it in yellow. I wouldnt change it at all. All kinds of people have polished intakes but your's is the only bright a** yellow one I've seen.

Mustangs Unlimited sells the chrome PS cover. I had it on my car for a while but didn't like the way it looked at all - it looked too "cheap". Anyway they're like $35.

Ernan looks great...Love the car dude. Paul, I was going to do that to my p/s resivoir too, did you use flat black or satin? Also, did you paint it on the car? I was going to attempt that. When the new motor goes in I hope to have everything black, brackets, manifold, ect...

I have an ACT sensor, its in the pic on the left hand side on the pipe right below where the strut tower brace bolts to the strut tower. Also, it must be used. Its used by the EEC to determine the density of the incoming air... the colder it is the more dense the air and therefore more fuel will be needed.

As for the PS, I removed it from the car and taped the aluminum part up and put plugs into the holes where the PS fluid enters and exits. I painted it with satin black, I think gloss would look bad. I sprayed several THIN coats on it and did the Rio method of shining up the aluminum... ANTISIEZE!!!
