Hey all,
i was experimenting with some spinning and i only got one tire bringing the heat, i tried multiple times!!!!!!! so i guess my clutch packs are worn but no biggie cause after my t-5 swap is complete and exhaust rear end is next!!!!!! but i am most definitely taking my car to have someone install the gears,cause i just dont feel comfortable DIY'ing it...

1)now i was wondering they have to replace all the bearings and seals when installing gear correct?
2)what is the typical shop procedure for installing gears
3)are they gonna charge me like 600-900.00 for a rear end rebuild etc etc. i just dont want to be bent over, i was going to replace a leaking seal on the pass side but i figure if im gonna pay for gears installed they should replace all that stuff anyways right!? i just want to be edumaacted going into this process and finding a good deal..

would it be cost effective to rebuild a rear end. or oculd i just by a used on and swap it in!!!!!

rebuild it yourself, its not hard and do it the modified style, that way it will never do that again!!

I wouldn't recommend doing the rear end yourself unless you have access to a torque wrench, impact wrench (I got away with using an electric one), dial calipers (for measuring shims) and finally a magnetic base dial indicator (measuring backlash). If you are just going to rebuild the Traction-Lok and not install new gears, then you’ll only need the torque wrench.

Either way, do the Traction-Lok rebuild with the extra friction disks on either side. Its definitely worth it. Come to think of it, you may need the dial calipers to do the rebuild, to measure the spacers that go between the friction disks, but I can’t remember off the top of my head if that is a necessity.

Edit: Shop around local shops. Most will probably quote you a flat rate price on a rear end rebuild.

yah i dont really want to touch it, rear ends need to be done right with the right tools, which i dont have....im willing to admit it and pay to have it done, i just wont get ripped off period..... i can handle a paying for good work and fair price, but shatty work and ripped wont happen and ive learned the more edumacated about things you are less likely to be charged for headlight fluid , if you know what i mean..........

i would like to have the whole rear taken care of with the gear install that way she is ready to go but that will probably be a lot of money i just wanted to know what was what, so like they dont charge me labor for something that is apart of the job etc. so no ideas of what to expect here

I've heard anywhere between $350-$500 for a basic ring & pinion install. What sucks is I don't believe that they would rebuild your posi in a 'modified' fashion......the posi itself is easy to rebuild and doesn't require special tools. It never hurts to call around and check. Try to find out who local guys recommend. If there are circle track racers in your area that you know of, find out where they have their work done.......it's probably going to be your best bet.

1,350 from advance drive line a place where i know it will be done right! but freaking alsmost 1400! no sir i only payed 1500 for the whole car!!!!! i could do 800 tops but yah. i got to call around

What a rip, you can bolt in a brand new traction lok for about 300 if you do it yourself. I installed my own gears and 8K miles later everything is still working well. If you have good mechanical ability you can probably handle it. The hardest part is getting the crush sleeve to start compressing while lying on your back in the driveway lol.

just called RSP, and they are asking 350 plus labor with ford 3.73' gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so uh yah labor is proabably gonna blow! but it shouldnt hit over 700.00 bones which is semi-reasonable,well at least nex to 1400.00...
and they are bragged about locally hear in orlando, so yah im a little happy now......

Make sure you have them rebuild the posi while it's apart. If possible, have them do it with the 'modified' stacking order in which a plate is removed, and one of you old clutches is reused along with the new clutch kit.

I enjoyed rebuilding my rear and gear install, even though you have your mind pretty much made up, every tool you use for the install you will be using again torque wrench, dial indicator, etc. that is if you do your own work on the car
