I was looking at Saleen's web site and I was wondering if you could order a bare basic supercharged one. Would it be possible to order a S-281 SC with no other options. Such as the no brake package, no chrome wheels, no MaxGrip Diff. etc. I mean the supercharged coupe is $47,994. And that's all I want. None of the other stuff.

Yes it is possible. If your local Saleen dealer can not help you out, I am sure we can help you find a dealer that will take care of getting you the exact car you want.

Yeah, I'm thing of buying one in 2006 or 2007. Stopped modding the '04 and I'm currently saving up.

I have recently ordered a 2006 Saleen SC-281. For 2006 the 14" Brakes are now standard so the cost of the car has gone up. Actually there is a bunch of changes for '06, instead of 400HP for '05 the '06 is now rated at 435hp... I think the base price is now around $51K. The prices on the Saleen site are quite outdated.......The only options I got on mine was Shaker 1000 audio and HID's. If you are looking for a good Saleen Dealer, Contact Ron Ward at Campbell Ford, 888-367-3999. He is located here in Michigan, but is a heck of a guy and one of the largest Saleen Dealers in the Midwest. I know he ships cars all over US. Mine is on track to be in sometime in January.

$51K.

Might have to settle for a base coupe.

Yea,

You should see the window sticker for my S351R. It's more than that and that was 10 years ago. I don't know if I could pull the trigger on a 2006 at 51k + tax, license and transport.

Yep, this is exactly why I gave up my original idea of purchasing a 2005/06
S281 convertible. I simply could not justify $50K+ for a new vehicle, let alone a Mustang regardless if it is a Saleen. It's the same reason I abandoned purchasing a then-new S351 in 1997/98 because the MSRP, plus gas guzzler, luxury & sales taxes would have pushed the total price into the $60K+ range.

Now here I am 7 years later with an essentially new Saleen Cobra for 1/2 the price.

Now you know why I bought my 1996 and had it re-done! It is just to expensive to buy a new one. Not to mention, I really like the SN95's...

Unless sal07b takes offense, I can answer this one...

"Budget" Saleens were a series of Saleen convertibles produced specifically for the Budget Rent a Car company in the late 90's as a promotional deal between Saleen & Budget. They received specific Saleen serial numbers ending in the suffix 'B' to distinguish them from standard S281 convertibles.
The Saleen Book gives a more thorough history on these cars.

No offense taken. SVT is basically right. They built and delivered 30 cars in 1996 and 88 in 1997. Many of them, for obvious reasons, were automatics. However, mine was one of the 5-speeds. They were all convertibles with the lightbar and Speedline Magnesium wheels. I looked up the closest thing to them, which is a Shelby GT 350 H (Hertz reltals) and thought it would be cool to buy mine. The H-model Shelby's are selling for more then the non-H-models, so I thought "what the heck". Mine is also one of 19 that has ever been painted that color (Deep Metallic Violet), which also appealed to me.

Anyways, the good thing about them is that they are a limited production inside of a limited production. The bad thing is that they were rentals. I have basically had mine completely re-done. The Magnesiums were pretty chewed up, so they were re-finished (twice actually, the last time being completed yesterday). I had the car disassembled and repainted the factory color. I had the top replaced, and recently put an 03 crate motor with some internal mods in. It is basically a new car now, but I still need to do the tranny (another issue from it's rental days I'm sure...).

The Saleen "B" code on the S281 actually refers to the second letter of the word ABUSED!!

Don't matter what car it is, don't buy a rental. A Budget Saleen would have been the one I would have paid the extra insurance for

HA! ha ha.

I would trade all three of my Saleens for a any condition 1966 Shelby Hertz car and I don't care if the numbers match either.

Marcus, Before you trade your saleens, Go drive a 66 GT 350! A friend of mine has 4 Shelby,s ( !967 GT 500, 1968 GT 500 KR Conv,1966 GT 350 H Car and a 1989 GT 350! ) I drove his 66 and was very disappointed! Car was all stock with and automatic! Didn't handle at all and wouldn't get out of its own way! I thought about selling my S-351 and buying the GT 350 H. ( Then when I drove it it really made me really see these cars are not as much fun as the Saleen's! ) Out S-351's could take them in the 1/8 mile with 2 spark plugs un-hooked! I had a 67 GT 350 in 1981! It was a cool car but it didn't and could never run as good as our S-351"s! It was a 4-speed and had a Lemans cam! It sounded great and looked good ! Mark

66 GT350's

Well, truth be told, the automatic kills most of the fun.

I'll have to think of a witty response to protect the honor of 66 GT350's.....but it will have to be tomorrow. I am glued to the hurricane track...and wondering just where I will be able to hide a freshly restored 1991 7 up mustang vert.....that I just finished this weekend.

Witty reponse coming....after I call my insurance agent and make a couple of adjustments before the storm hits the gulf......and all changes are denied.

A motor to push you back in the seat...for 6S100 http://www.carmemories.com/cgi-bin/viewzoom.cgi?image=1710...built by the "old man".

My slug (my son calls it the "Animal")on the grid at Fontana

A better animal pic is attached on the front straight at the Las Vegas Speedway ..road course.......oh, and it kicks my S351 inventory with ease...but it is not a "mortal" being....
