have a 90 gt with a vortec, a/c eliminator kit that moves the power steering up. i had to crank the motor to get the damn belt on and it still rubs between the tensioner and the fan pulley. I even have a big ass ford taurus pulley on the power steering pump. Any Ideas?

Can you post a pic? I'm not exactly sure of what you are getting at, the belt routing or lenght of the belt. I get mine from autozone because they have alot of different sizes availble and are made by Kelly Springfield. If it's the routing then a pic is needed.

Same setup, Mine does the same thing, it rubs between the tensioner and the water pump pulley. Its hard to find a proper sized belt. I just deal with it.

I had the same problem, even without the smog elim kit. What I did was flip the tensioner bracket around and made a idler pulley set up. And to adjust my belt I got the "J" shaped bracket from Advance Auto with the slot in to move the alt up and down. I just put a powerdyne on a guys car and used the same set up. On his set-up I used 82.5", with underdrive on the alt, stock water pump, and stock crank pulley. Depending on the idler pulley size and what pullies you run the belt will very. ANd if you are running the stock altenator the "J" bracket mad need to grinded alittle to clear the altenator fan. I am running a 3G alt and didn't have that problem.

Here is a pic of the set-up..

Sirshot39 - just checked out your link - very nice car. I'm kind of close to you. Did you do all the work yourself or have some help?

I have posted this solution before, but a very easy fix is:
On the tensioner bracket, there is a hole for the locator pin on the back of the tensioner. drill a new hole RIGHT NEXT to the original one. By doing this you are rotating the tensioner just a little counter clockwise so that it will not push the belt down enough to hit the waterpump pulley.
Just drill the hole below left of the original so that it is right next to the original, almost touching it.
takes 10 mins, is free, and works like a charm.

I did everything besides the rollcage, paint, some welding on the rear suspension, and the tune/dyno pulls. A guy from little ferry was my mechanic during the trans swap+ rear suspension install.
