That 'related links' add-on post on every thread is the last straw for me. This site has always been about the worst for extraneous marketing addons and such, but this pushes my button for good. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

See yall down the road, or on other forums. No great loss to Stangnet, Im sure, but this goes over my personal redline. :notnice:

Sorry to hear that man, I thought you were somebody I knew so I searched you posts last week. Turns out, I don't know you, but I learned that you are pretty funny and informative at the same time. Sorry to see you leave.

Stangnet has to make money somehow. I feel extremely grateful to have this free source of information on the internet. Plus it's a lot of fun to discuss Mustangs!

Maybe you have some "smarter" suggestions for methods for them to make money? I'm sure they'd love to hear them.

But is it getting paid from everytime I click on a topic? I'm sure as heck not clicking on any of the links. It pi$$es me off too. I mean, right here next to the "quick reply" box are all the same ads in the "Alfred Newman" post that always tags on to the last post. That and the damn blue hyperlinked text in my posts pi$$es me off as well. There are 21 for sale ads in classic parts, now I clicked on an add, and this damn Google deal put in links to commercial websites for the same parts as I have for sale?!?!? That's BS!!!

seriously, some of you are going to have a corinary if this is upsetting you so much. if you aren't interested, then don't click. If any of you complainers were paying for this service then you might have a gripe.

If you have enjoyed reading and posting here, have helped others with questions and or problems, have gained knowledge or learned somthing new or cool here, then this site has done exactly what it is meant to do. screaming whining about ads? what...did some of you JUST start using forums. the only place you are going to find a forum with no adds are the crappy 20 year old style BBS's that are about as easy and fun to navigate as the german autoban doing over 100mph in the dark while its raining sleet.

if you have reaped the benifits of this site and are complaining about the way it makes money to continue serving you for FREE, then pipe in with some alternate ideas to maintain such a site realisticly...

my $.02

(and don't harp on my poor spelling, ateast my 34 year old mustang runs like a top inspite of my illiteracy) =P

I agree. This is a busy site the uses a lot of bandwidth. Needs to pay for it somehow and it's not like you get marketing emails or anything. Get a life.

its pretty annoying but I switched colors to dark moon or something and I dont see the google guy anymore.

Though this site uses tons of bandwidth, probably three times as much as most forums. Ill live with it

Hehe....ya, complaining about something that we get for free....I dont usually drop strong opinions, but have a great time to wherever you go...I dont think we need you here.

Honestly, all this bitching is pissing me off.....

Does Lman have a link in his signature? That, is promoting something. I've been on the darkmoon for a while and had to switch over to see what all the hubub is about. It is not a problem for me one way or the other. If it keeps the lights on, keep the ads coming. I am just blessed with an easy going personality maybe.

I don't see it as complaining about something that we get for free. They make their money because of us. If this site had 5 members nobody would advertise here. I want to advertise here myself and they want me to pay $300+ per month for a lousy banner and they won't even let me do group buys. If they are more concerned with the money than they are making their members and customers happy then I will take my business elsewhere.

AHHHHH!!! DARKMOON!!!!

Old Blue, I've been here damn near since the beginning. I don't click on the banners, hypertext, or the "ads by Google" that, with the Alfred Newman "poster", are located in two places that are within inches of each other as Newman is the last poster on every post unless you're in Darkmoon apparently and that will probably change soon. It's not very often that my posts are meanless bantering or just trying to get my post count up. I also don't attempt to reply to a post that I don't feel I'm qualified to reply to. I know quite a bit, but I know I don't know everything, so most of my 2600 some odd posts are replies to someone requiring knowledge that I feel I might be able to enlighten them with, so I feel most qualified of those complaining, to gripe about the ads. I realize the bandwidth doesn't come free, and I also realize that the site uses a lot and is constantly upgrading servers and such. I also realize that StangNet has a shop, has purchased company project vehicles, and has employees, that although, support the upkeep of the website, also suck resources from it as well. What I'm worried about is Mike and company overextending themselves on this and the site going away. To me, this plastering of ads is just a sign of times to come if care is not taken.

eliquently spoken, and i can see your gripes, and share the disdain for commercial advertizing. but i think you are being too doomsday-ish and far too black and white here.

There and things in life that people dont like, in your homes, neighborhoods, TV's, and work places. Some of these things we do not like are facts of life, and some are not. often we can do things to change the latter of those two, but a lot of times we can't. if there is a good program on TV and i get tired of too many commercial breaks, or annoying commercials i dont like, i either get up till the break is over. or mute the tube until my show is back on.

I don't know a single person that enjoys commercials, but that doesn't mean they don't understand why they are there. do we need all those commercials, nope, do the networks? probably not. they will get as much advertizer dollars as they can squeeze. but have you ever seen the masses refusing to watch their favorite programms because they dont like all those annying adds about femanine itching/odor, men with impotencse that will be supermen in all things they do with the gulp of a single pill, or how you can get cash now if you stubbed your tow at the work place now now now? Im sure some do, but most dont and wont.

I can see in this very thread that some people agree with you. but i would say that more than 90% will likely just ignore the adds and continue reading and posting skipping over what they dont want to read, just like you would do in a "People Magazine".

So, in me example, you may see that like TV, people will grumble about the acommercials, but wont stop watching, or reading in this case.

Sure it sucks, but it isnt going to go away. Rest assured if it reaches the proportions you predict. the moderators of this forum will take notice and quickly change things if numbers start to dwindle. You think people who are so good at pinching pennys and squeezing every cent out of a commodoty wont notice when to pull back to save a cash cow from going belly up? they likey will know how far to go.

i guess people can leave to get away from the adds that bother them. or leave to protest their overabundance. but i think that you would be missing out on the good that still remains here (baby in the dirty bathwater).

anyways, thats my story and im stickin to it! =P

editted for a naughty metaphor
