overheating

i ve search and cannot find any rock solid answers. ok this is a 2000 2v he spun a rod bearing on #4 so we pulled the motor and made the repair. now when we try to warm it up it just overheats like we have a air pocket in the block. any help? we have tried everthing. thanks

did you replace thermostat? May be its stuck closed? Waterpump working right? did you bleed the coolant system correctly?

....and if you did replace the thermostate, did you install it the right way? I can't tell you how many times i've seen thermostates installed upside down.

yea the thermostat is in ok and is brand new. i filled the block through the thermosatt housing on the intake then proceded to warm it up. still a no go maybe im warming it up wrong or its got a blown headgasket

You did purge the air out of cooling system right? Sometimes its hard to get all the air out

whats teh best way to purge these cars i warned it up with cap off it just pushes the coolant out to no end

Do the search man. there was pretty long thread here little while ago talking about coolant flush

the best way is to use a vaccum bleed setup but I doubt you have access to one.

Without access to that you can try to fill it at the degas bottle and rev it slightly, up to about 2k rpm's to aid in breaking up air pockets. Don't worry coolant is going to spill out and overflow from the bottle.

worst case you can pull one of the heater hoses off and fill it there too.
