Overweight GT?

I have read through many treads and have found that my GT weighs 1000 lbs more than everyone else's. Here is the info taken off the door sticker.

GVWR 4,490 lbs front GAWR 2,436 lbs rear GAWR 2,232 lbs

so add 4,490 + 110(gas) + 200(me) = 4,800 lbs !!!

Why does my GT weigh almost 5k? And is this why I consistently run low 14s?

My Car
2003 Premium GT w/ leather, mach sound system, all the weight adding options
KN FIPK2, 75mm TB, CL Plenum, Magnaflow catted X, Magnapack exhaust,
SCT Tune, front 17x8 245/45 BFG Gforce TA KDs, rear 17x10.5 315/35 BFG Gforce TA KDs

The 1/4 mile times were run at Orlando Speed World, where I have seen GTs need slicks to get into the 13s. Maybe that track just sucks, but that does account for everyone else saying that there stang weighs 3500 lbs.

Can somebody help me and my overweight GT? Thanks

Personaly, I wouldnt go by the door sticker. Fill your tank, go to a truck stop or local track equipped with a weigh station and weight it out.

The numbers you have there could also be the maximum weight your car can carry.

Its not overweight. that is the gross vehicle wieght not the curb weight. they dont put on the sticker what the car really weights. gross vehicle weight is the max the car is supose to be able to weight completly loaded

whats the altitude there? stick or auto? sticks will run a little faster. maybe driving style might help. slicks would defintley help. Im at 500 above sea level and my best is a 13.93. with perfect air

WTF?! :rlaugh: :rlaugh: Dude, your car does NOT weight over 4K lbs. Pay no attention to your door stickers. I forget what they actually mean, but not all are refering to the vehicle weight. Some are refering to towing capacity and such. :rlaugh:

:bang: that makes sence

So any advice on the low 14s, or do i just need a blower to run 13 at Orlando Speed World

Note: last time i saw a supercharged S281 run a 14.0 at OSW
blower or learn how to drive...dont dog the hometown track, most people dont even have one

edit:14.0 is a pretty good time for a blown s281

:rlaugh: Your car's fat :rlaugh:

Agreed we are pretty lucky to have a track here, but i guess I still have a thorn in my side from the "dirt kids" that shot two nice dents stripping off the true blue paint right down to the sheet metal with a high powered pelet rifle one time on the slow drive back to the lanes at Orlando Speed World

Yes, it's most likey me and not the car nor the track that makes me run slower, but what I need is practice, and when I drive for an hour, then sit at the track for 3 hours and only get 3 runs in... sorry im starting a rant that i shouldn't get into. I am glad to have a track, but like any enthusiest I wish I could go more often... and not worry about my car getting shot. :nice:

edit: wow, S281Es are as slow as I am, for that kind of money I expected more

my car is fat, its a vert!! it's funny if you think about it, but everything else being equal, the skinny weak kid who weighs 140 Lbs will always have an advantage. I should just buy a funny car, I weigh 250! me and a heavy a$$ vert doesn't make for low e.t.'s :)

I think those numbers are for the maximum the car should pull. So don't pay any attention to them unless you plan on pulling trailers with the stang.

matsm21, you know verts are usually only 100 lbs heavier than coupes. That's only a tenth. That stuff about them not handling as well is easily fixed with some full-length subframe connectors. I drive my friends 2000 GT coupe that's lowered 2" and mine outhandles it any day.
