hi, guys.

yesterday in a parking lot, a nice guy opened his door into the front quarter panel of my 68 mustang gt, and knocked off a thumbnail-size paint chip, down to the metal.

the car was originally "presidential blue" according to marti, but i have no idea if the PO painted it some other blue or what.

anyway, otherwise the paint on my car is not perfect, it's not a show car, but this particular chip is a real eyesore.

any suggestions on what i ought to do to fix it?

the whole car does not need a paint job, it's just got a few minor imperfections other than the one mentioned above.

i was hoping there would be some way i could repair the damage myself, as i doubt a paint shop would be willing to mess with a little paint chip area.

i now wish i had searched the ground for the paint chip, b/c if it had been intact i might have been able to use it in the repair... but i drove off without it unfortunately.

any advice would be appreciated.

jim

Thats sucks. My best idea is just trying to match touch up paint. I still don't see any reason you cant check with a paint shop and see if they can fix it.

go to a sutomotive paint store, have them do a color match and mix you up a pint and put some in a aerosol spray can. sand down the chip area to feather the old paint or use some glazing putty to build it up and then (paint)dust the area around the chip to blend the color and wet sand it and buff
