Ok now its more frequent. You've heard me whine about it before but now I'm getting them everywhere. I don't even take the highway any more. I go way outta my way every day to go to work. Taking the back roads. No matter what I do paint is falling off. I put my foot down on the door sil, paint chips off, drive more than 3 miles, somewhere paint chips off. It's getting ridiculous. The service people at my Ford said they wont cover it at all. I had my old Ranger for more than 8 years and NEVER had paint chips. Sure I had dings, scratches, and door dents, but never just paint falling off. I've had this car for two and a half weeks and already its chipped down to the metal or primer in little spots about the size of a match head. I know there must be some different types of painting between the years but this just isn't right...

Is this the same for all the new Mustangs? Can you guys with S197 voice your opinion on your paint job? Thanks guys.

Mine has 11,000 kms on it, seen snow, highway driving on ****ty roads. There is not a single paint chip in my car. The only paint marks are scratches from the neighbour's cat using my car to sun tan.amnit: crapola

Dude's had the car for just a couple of weeks. If he's half as careful as he says he is, there's a problem with the paint!

Take it to a different Ford dealer if you have to, but get them to fix it UNDER WARRANTY!

if theres a problem, take it to a DIY car wash. put the sprayer right next to the paint, and watch it fly off!!!! then the dealer will HAVE to warranty the paint failure.....

For going 15 minutes outta my way every day to save my paint, it shouldn't be chipping. I'm going to talk to the service manager today and if not then I'll take it to the dealership by my house. I'm sorry but its a brand new car and shouldn't be chipping all over. Especially when I've rested my feet on the door sil and chipped it. Thanks all. I'll update once I find out.

UPDATE:

Well, talked to my mananger and decided to show him the chips. He says he doesn't advise getting it repaired anyway because the body shop we use really sucks. He also says to him it looks like average ol' rock chips and I must have real bad rock luck with my car. Well...don't know where to go from here. He did give me a bottle of the Ford touch up paint but I don't know how to use and am not sure if I want to.

TO TEST FOR PAINT FAILURE:

1. take a piece of making tape, and lay it over the affected areas.

A. it peels the paint off--you have a paint failure

B. it does nothing--you may NOT have a paint failure

2. take it to the car wash and use the pressure washer right up next the the paint chips. be careful, if it is a really good one, it could also dent your car, but i doubt the car wash has that good of a sprayer....

A. the paint flakes off like the shell of a hard boiled egg--you have a paint failure

B. the paint adheres to the car, and not more flaking--you may NOT have a paint failure.

if this does not peel the paint off, i would say in my professional opinion that you dont have a problem, just bad luck.

if it does peel the paint off, take it back to the same dealer and show him the huge bare spot where you paint used to be, he will warranty it. (dont tell him how you got it to peel.)

the manager said that the shop he uses sucks. GO TO ANOTHER SHOP. dont go to a shop that someone openly tell you SUCKS. find another dealership to go to.

Just found one today on the side of the driver's side fender of all places (right above my beloved GT badge) while I was buffing out a scratch I saw the week before. I really hope it's not paint failure. At least the scratch buffed out...

Does anyone know what warranty this would fall under? Rust and Corrosion?

i dont know what catagory they would call it, when a car come in for warranty paint work, it says on the RO: "customer states paint is peeling on the hood" or something similar. dont worry about it, if it is really a paint defect from ford, it will be covered. IF IT HAS BEEN FIXED before you bought it, you may be out of luck. it happens more than you might think. most ford bodyshops will cover it anyway, unless there is a huge problem with the repair job from before....
