Has anyone painted there stock mirrors themselves and if so what did you use to sand and prep them or did you not sand off the texture? Also any info on a place to find some cheap take offs would be appreciated might want to practice a little before trying the originals. Thanks in advance.

Personally, painting the entire mirror is too much. The mirrors on the S197's are huge. They look ALOT better with Midwest Autogear mirror inserts. They're relatively inexpensive and look much better than any stock painted mirrors I've seen.

Found some pictures to show you the difference. Once is fully painted, one is just the insert.

if your car is black like mine, i dont think you would notice a fully painted mirror as much when compared to the other colors.

+1 on the entire mirror for lighter colored cars.

Looks much more uniform.

On the darker colors, just the insert would be a nice offset.
