painting front and rear windshield molding

I am having some body touch up work done and was wondering if anybody has ever painted the window molding that goes around the front and rear windshields ?? Also has anyone done this by just taping it off and leaving the moldings on the car while being painted?? I bought the mustang black exterior trim paint fron LRS and my body guy seems to think he can paint them with leaving them on the car no problem. Anyone do this or any opinions??

I would remove them to avoid
over spray on your windows I removed mine when i painted my cad and they came nice

Take them off its pretty easy to take them off and you can do a better job painting them when off.

Are there any clips of sorts? and will I need new clips??

Yeah they're held on by clips just be slow and gentle they pop right off. You can also buy a trim removal tool too but I just did it by hand it worked fine for me.

I painted mine during a exterior resto a few months ago. I just left them on the car and painted them. I was able to get masking paper to slip under the trim so the repaint looks as good as if they were removed. In fact I repainted all the cars trim without removing any and it looks perfect. It just takes extra time to mask everything real good.

Nice work! looks cherry! I talked to my body guy today and he said they came out nice. He did the same thing and left them on the car. He also did the rear quarter window molding, sanded it down and filled in the few rub spots and repainted them. Ill throw some pics up when I get it back.

Here is the finished product! everything was left on and got taped off really well, came out pretty nice!

Thanks! , I used the black mustang trim spray paint from LRS. I was looking at those covers for the rear quarter window trim, but I am glad I went this way instead. A lot of guys say those covers dont look good on the car.

I believe it was, the can is gone now.

I just did mine also. I found it easier to take all the trim off (except the rear quarter windows) than masking everything. I used the trim removal tool and with patience the trim comes off rather easily.

SEM makes good stuff. Trim looks awesome! It's amazing the impact that nice trim makes.
