Any idea when we'll start to see some aftermarket goodies for these rides? I expect mine next month, and I'll want to start putting some go-fast goodies on it pretty quickly. Wheels and exhaust will probably be first, then I'll start looking for CAI's, etc. Eventually I want to strap a huffer on it.

We will have Magnaflow Catbacks available less than 2 weeks from today.

They will be available as such:

Magnaflow Catback with Magnaflows
2 1/2" Mandrel with Double Walled Tips

Magnaflow Catback with MagnaPaks
2 1/2" Mandrel with Double Walled Tips

Magnaflow AXLE-back with Magnaflows
with Double Walled Tips

What we are wondering is if people will go for the catback or axle back. The factory setup comes 2 1/2" but is not mandrel and will be about $70 more for the full catback compared to the axle back.

What are your thoughts on this?

They will be available for sale along with more at our S197mustang.com site and Partshopper.com.

S197Mustang.com will focus on Modifcations and Parts news on the 05 Mustang and will be it's main purpose, so for sure stay tuned in there.

I thought the whole system was mandrel bent.

$70 won't stop me from buying a cat-back over an axle-back if there's a benefit, even if the benefit is ease of installation.

I've been watching s197mustang.com, and will keep watching there, but I haven't seen any real changes there lately. I'm propbably just getting real antsy about everything! :D I'm really amped to get this car, then get some parts strapped on to it.

Thanks for your info man!! :nice:

The newest Magnaflow systems have been sounding real good on the 4.6's. I'm anxious to see what they put together for the new car.

Flowmasters have always sounded good on the 4.6 too, I really like the sound at around 2200 rpm.

I've been running a MAC cat-back on my Lightning for 2 years. It's pretty tame, but their kit for the new car might sound good, especially if it's true that the new cats are high-flow.

Decisions, decisions... :D

It might come down to who puts out a good kit first!

Here's my question:

Will the aftermarket catbacks place the mufflers where they SHOULD be (in front of the axle).

[rant]
I ****ING HATE seeing the mufflers from the back of the car, all I want to see is pipes. God knows that some worthless piece of crap trying to pose as a human being is going to put fart pipes on the new Mustang. My only wish is that I'll be there to cave his skull in.
[/rant]

Anyway, some performance parts should carry over. I don't see why the current underdrive pulleys and timing adjuster wouldn't fit.

The rear end is the same, good old 8.8", so a gear swap could be done right out of the dealer (now all those people who have failed miserably by putting 3.73's on a naturally aspirated Mustang may redeem themselves :D). Question is if a current speedcal would still work, since nobody knows how the wiring is going to be laid out. I don't know about chips or ECU flashes.....isn't it using a new ECU system?

Well there is no where to put the mufflers under the new car before the axle.

Magnaflow has designed their system to tuck up under as far as it can, the cans are barely noticeable they say.

Damn, that sucks. I was hoping at least small muffler like the packs could be shoehorned in somewhere. :(

Guess we'll see how it turns out.

I'm not sure of your logic. If someone wanted to they could put a fart-can on the rear of a 1979 - 2004 Mustang. Whether you can put mufflers in front of the rear axle has nothing to do with someone who wants to put a fart-can on any Mustang.

3.73s will be a waste of money. The tires on the 2005 Mustang are a lot larger in diameter. Becuase of this, the 3.55 axle on a 2005 is effectively the same as the 3.27 axle on the 99-04. You also have to thing about what you want to accomplish with a lower axle. The '05 MTX with stock 3.55 rear end, will be able to run the 1/4 mile finishing in 3rd gear. If you put in lower gears, like 3.73, you will run slower in the 1/4 because you will have to make an extra shift. Putting in anything taller than 4.10s will be a waste of time and money.

The 2005 Mustang PCM is supposed to be the Black Oak system similar to what is used on the Lincoln LS and T-Bird. If this is the case, there will be no need for any PCM reflash if you change gears. The speedometer and odometer are derrived from one of the wheel sensors. Therefore the only thing that matters is tire diameter. You should be able to put in any rear end gear you want and the speedometer (+ odometer) will still read the same. An interesting side effect of this system is that even in reverse the speedometer will read up scale and the odometer will increment up even when you are in reverse.

True, but you would also have to do something with the original mufflers as well. On this Mustang, you can chop them off and weld the rice pipes in one simple step. :notnice:

We'll see. The best way to run the 1/4 is by being at the top of 4th. Seeing how the larger tires are basically shifting the gear ratios up a step compared to the SN95's, maybe 4.30's will become the norm. Then again, plenty of guys run 4.30's now.

Reading that reminded me of that scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. :rlaugh:

Reminds me of an experience I had many years ago. I was working in a garage and this hot chick comes in all upset. She was supposed to go visit her girlfriend, who lived about 350 miles away. Instead she spent the weekend in town with her boyfriend. She needed someone to quickly put 700 miles on her odometer so her father could verify her weekend activities.

I just laughed my ass off and told her "sorry honey, you're in deep dog do-do. But one of my co-workers though he could help her out. He put her car up on the lift (a Camaro ), disconnected the speedometer drive shaft and proceeded to put an electric drill on it. Well the old drill only ran the speedo up to about 60 MPH. So at that rate he'd have to stand there for 12 hours to run up the required mileage. :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

Needless to day she was in tears as she drove off since none of us were about to tear her dash apart and screw with the odometer digits.

I wonder how fast a dremel could get it :nice:

AWESOME!!! That's the angle I've been waiting to see of the 05. Great job stang99svt! :nice:

Interesting things on the new chassis:

The k-member now runs out past the frame rails.

The exhaust actually looks pretty decent. There are also hangers for the midpipe now.

Full length frame rails. Now the car doesn't have to be held together by the floorpan :notnice:
